The case for keeping Conley, Gobert - and running it back!

I stole this from some random sports or radio show but name one team who's bench was responsible for an NBA championship.
That’s a short eyed view. Every time the starters got a lead it seemed the bench would always lose that big lead in the second quarter. I don’t think you need a great bench, but one that holds its own. At times our bench looked like the worst in the league

Is there another Tobias Harris in the league that I don’t know about? Because this does not fit the description. Specifically the defensive part. Tobias can guard mostly 4s and some bigger threes. Would get smoked by 2s. He is not a plus defender at all. His defense is similar to Bojan but he rebounds more. Not as good of a shooter and part of the reason Philly sucked is no one could create a shot. They were begging Tobias to be that guy and he wasn’t.

I like Harris and think he’d be better in our system but I’m not sure he’s an upgrade over Bojan. He makes like 160M over the next 4 years.

He is slightly better than bojan for sure. But not twice as good as his contract would otherwise state. The question is whether Harris fits better than Conley? He does. If you get Milton and a first to compensate for his overpay I don’t think you will find better compensation for how much we spent on Conley. In many other scenarios involving Conley we would be the ones giving up assets which we can’t cause we spent them all last year on Conley. I want the jazz to take the mulligan.

So why Milton? Thybulle and Milton are both 6’5” SGs which is perfect if we move Donovan to the 1, Milton has one heck of a 3 point shot 43% compared to a Thybulle’s 36%, but Thybulle is one heck of a defender.

Thybulle won defensive awards on defensive awards in college. They say he re-wrote the books in terms of awards. Anyways, Thybulle is also younger so if you think about getting him and Tobias, really you are paying $36 million for 2 starters which is much more palatable. If Thybulle was your low usage defense bull dog with don bojan and Tobias being your higher usage guys that seems like a perfect mix. Bojan and Tobias can both run the pick n roll as well, I believe Tobias’ stats in the pick n roll are quite good from what I’ve heard. Overall we’d have great length too. Thybulle, Bojan, and Harris at the 2-3 gives us height and assumed length to muck up passing lanes as well (something the Lakers were great at).

Anyways, regarding running the team back with Joe in the starting 5, Ingles is getting older guys. I love him but I’d just say we should expect him to slow down some more.
