The case for Kyle Lowry

So, obviously, there have been a lot of 'Trade Devin Harris' threads lately, and deservedly so from where I sit. He's awful in general and particularly this season. We all know that. But acquiring an all star point guard is no easy task, and we all know the reasons why. What we need is a point guard who can run the show capably, has a handle, can drop some dimes, be efficient, protect the ball, score proficiently, and hit the occasional 3. Well, I looked at some stats on NBA.com and ESPN and I think Kyle Lowry fits the bill. Here are his stats from this season:

PPG: 14.7
APG: 7.6
RPG: 5.7
3P%: 37%
EFF: +19.56
PER: 19.7
AST / TO RATIO: 2.36

Contract: 5.75 mil over 3 years
Age: 25

Granted, he's the starting PG for the Rockets, but they have both Jonny Flynn and Goran Dragic backing him up, so it's not like trading him would be off the table (though maybe trading him to the Jazz specifically would). Either way, he's a name that hasn't really come up too often on this board, but I think he's one that we should consider.

He's in the top 10 in the League in assists and even rebounds some. He seems pretty durable, as he has not missed too many games per season throughout his career. Could be a good, overlooked option for our Jazz.

Trading our best asset in Millsap wouldn't be enough to land Lowry so what would you propose we could do to land him?

It would take a massive give off of our young players to get Lowry. He without a doubt would be the hardest player to get from the Rockets.

I would give our two picks this year and our first round pick next year (top 5 protected), take on a bad (but not paralyzing contract), and any of our players except the youngsters and Millsap. Who knows, maybe they can get involved in a three-way trade that would send Lowry to us.

Houston is not going to give up Lowry, if the Jazz are going to look to trade with Houston they will need to focus on Flynn and Dragic.

Houston needs a big man. Give them Jefferson and 12 draft picks, that way maybe they'll take our trash for their good player.

Being here in houston we would have to give them Favors to get Lowry. They value him that highly.

The Rockets want Gasol but reluctant to give the Lakers Lowry, so we are not getting him.

Does Gasol really have THAT much more value that Millsap?

Sap is 27. 5 years younger. Owed 7.2M for next year. Putting up All-star nearing numbers(16/10 PER 23.60).

Gasol 32. Having another very good season(16/10 PER 21.05). Owed nearly 40M over the next 2 years. Gasol has Center size though.

Gasol also had a mammoth of a contract to take on.

For Lowry I would give up either big man (Sap or Jefferson) plus a future (2013) 1st that is top 3 protected (just in case we still suck ***).

Dj Augustin has similar numbers and could be had for a lot less.

Ppg 13
Apg 6.5 (on a crappy team)
Fg% 41
3pt % 34 (38 career)
Ft% 81

They would probably take Harris and al for Augustin and say maggette (salary match) and switch firsts next year.

Honestly, as of this point, Im down with signing Augustin. If Harris shows zero improvement, then we should pry him off of the hands of Charlotte. I seriously think that we could get Augustin for CJ and a 2nd rounder.
