The Debates

Obama wiped the floor with Romney tonight. It was really interesting watching Romney swing way to the left from where he's been in the last few years/months.

They must've included this storyline with each candidates teleprompter readings, so neither candidate had to guess who was going to win.

I missed the part where you went after political hacks like Thriller and Pearlwatson.

I missed the part where I went after any poster on this site...
The discussion was about facebook posts.
I noted there was a lot of facebook posts full if whining from my conservative friends. Tonight as well as after the last two debates.
I do not see why this is controversial.
If your facebook was full of liberal whining after Obama lost the first debate that does not surprise me in any way.
There are a lot of retards out there.

EDIT-Less important to me is who won tonight, I really don't think it matters much. I would like to hear what others think about Romney's positions tonight, and how they would have played during the republican primaries.

Sigh. You didn't see what I did there.

No I did. You think pearlwatson and the thriller are political hacks. One for the left and the other for the right. I just don't see what this has to do with what I was talking about.

No that is not what I think. So no you didn't see. I think they are alts and alts are idiotic. That is where I was going.

Oh. Ok. I don't disagree necessarily. Hacks or alts I don't think there is much difference in terms of how much value their opinions have.

Also, to be clear I haven't seen near the derpitude from thriller as i have from pearlwatson. I would certainly be open to changing my opinion on that though. I am also not as paranoid as others are on this site about alts. I don't have the time or inclination to deduce who is an alt and who is just a moron, so the distinction to me is pointless.

Romney Supporters: "Romney clearly won"
Obama Supporters: "Obama clearly won"

I haven't seen anyone on here stating that Romney clearly won this debate.

And like I said, the greatest barometer I've seen has been social media. It sure has been quiet out there tonight. My facebook is loaded with Romney supporters. If they're quiet then I doubt he won.

I'll let the talking heads in the media argue about who won.

I have no clue what Obama did. I didn't watch the debate. Like I said, MNF was more important. But judging by the lack of energy and excitement that Mitt gave his supporters on my facebook tonight, I don't think he did so hot in the debate.

This is an excellent question.

What all do you folks think?

Syria is Iran's path to the sea? Lol!

Someone should have shown Romney a map before this debate. Not only dues Iran have its own coast, but Iran doesn't border Syria anyway.

Was Romney not aware of all the Iranian navy activities over the last few years? Or Iran threatening to close the Persian gulf?

Wow, what an utter failure in a foreign policy debate.

All my conservative friends were quiet on fb, as well.

Idk if this was posted yet, but a CBS poll showed after the debate that only 23% of voters thought Romney won.

I thought Obama probably won but it certainly wasn't a dominating performance by either candidate. In honesty, I think it was very close to be honest. Here are my quick observations:

1. Obama was a lot more aggressive than Romney which makes you wonder if he and his staff were worried that they had to do something big tonight or lose the election.

2. For the most part, Romney ignored the comments the President made about him. He did however address the GM comment as well as pointing out that the ME agenda was a more important subject than personal attacks from the President.

3. President Obama had a good zinger about the evolution of the military post 1917(which he mistakenly said 1916). Will people see it as funny or as something not befitting the sitting President? I guess we will see.

4. Romney's most powerful statements were made obviously in regards to the President's record as well as the statement about "Obama's Apology Tour" and the comment about America ousting dictators while spreading our ideals.

5. I thought Romney's closing statement was very well done to be honest. He came across as very genuine. It was bad luck(tough coin flip) for the President to have to give his closing statement prior to Romney.

6. This debate didn't really do anything to be honest. While Obama likely won, I don't see it changing that much. This race is going to be very close.

My final thought is on the Romney game plan again. I was surprised not to see a statement about Libya as I am sure the President was as well. The number 1 issue is obviously the economy and Romney pointing out the current state of it scored points. My guess is that Romney's biggest goal tonight was to look Presidential. I think he accomplished that. We'll see if he made a mistake not trying to press for the truth from the President and administration about Libya.

I think Obama won this.

However I think his allowing Romney to turn alot of issues back to the economy hurt him and helped Romney. Romney looked to passive and Obama looked to aggressive.

I think Obama's best line was about how Romney is saying he would do what I have been doing but only say it louder. Very effective.

I thought that whole "300 ship Navy" stuff was from the Reagan era. The Navy has decided to go with fewer complex AEGIS missile cruisers and destroyers instead of a large number of non-AEGIS. I'm guessing most people aren't completely aware of what AEGIS ships are capable of, but I'd take 3 AEGIS ships vs 10 non-AEGIS ships any day of the week. Add that to our 12 (count 'em, 12) aircraft carriers. Very few nations have an air force larger than what the Navy carries around on a single aircraft carrier.

The U.S. Air force is the largest air force in the world. The U.S. Navy is the world's second largest air force.

I thought we only have 11 aircraft carriers. What I want to know is where did Romney get his number for ships needed?

An aggressive Romney vs a passive Obama: Romney dominated the debate.

An aggressive Romney versus an aggressive Obama: The moderator cheated

An aggressive Obama vs a passive Romney: Romney looked presidential.

Lol, gotta love the fight wing spin doctors.

I think Obama dominated this debate. The facts were on his side, he was clearly the aggressor, he (correctly) called BS on Romney multiple times, he pointed out that Romney was way too wishy washy to be a world leader, and he had some great zingers too.
