The Diaw / Dennis Fail thread

No, I just expect a GM to make good decisions when opportunities present themselves. I am not saying DL is a bad GM, but definitely overrated by his track record.

Yes because it is easier to judge track record in hindsight than to declare your opposition to each decision on the same day each one is announced by DL.. Sometimes opportunities present that seem like good decisions but reveal themselves as not so good later down the track.

You have $5000 in your pocket. You are given 10:1 odds over a coin flip (rule is you can only flip once and it costs $5000)
- Is it a good decision at this point to accept the coin flip (at this exact moment) ?? (probability says yes if you can afford it)

- If you decide to flip and win..was it a good decision ?
- If you decided to flip and lose.. was it a good decision ?
- If you decided not to flip at all.. was it a good decision ?

The above scenarios have parameters which are defined in a sandbox. But when it comes to trading players, there are lots of variables that are difficult to predict.. All you can do is assign a probability and hope that the outcome is good..

But expecting GM's to make good decisions at each opportunity ?? That GM would probably also be able to predict the outcome of a coin flip before it happens.

NOPE. I judged DL when we didn't extend Gordo a few years ago. It was stupid and I knew it would bite us in the butt. I thought the system held him back, and he would continue to have a lot of improvement.

I thought the Burke pick was bad, thought we should have traded Favors a couple years ago, still think we run a offense that doesn't match our personnel. Quin was touted as an offensive mastermind when he was brought in, LOL. Once Gobert and Exum started playing lockdown D, suddenly Quin was a defensive mastermind. I have to think that a big part of leaving is how much better Steven's system is. It will create easy points for Hayward. I live in Missouri, and Missouri fans still blame Quin for setting their program back. They are finally getting good again.

I really wanted Horny, and I still think he be great. I think with PJ gone, he will finally have a chance to actually coach.

Then there was the handling of Kanter. We lost him for nothing too.

We will probably lose Exum too unless they start giving him a lot more burn.

So for the most part, no, not a hindsight judgment. But at the end of the day, every GM should be judged on their overall performance. Again, I give DL a C- overall. Many more bad moves than good IMO. I simply think most fans overrate him as a GM.

Haywood did not deserve a max contract when he was given one. He was an underpowered role player with poor shooting percentages and lacked aggression. To think that ANYONE on this board was clamoring to throw a five year MAX at him, especially after just freeing ourselves from AK47's deal (who was a MUCH netter player when he got his MAX) is pure revisionism. It didn't happen. If you say you were advocating for that, you are a liar.
