The Donovan Mitchell Hype Thread! (repository of highlights and effusive praise)

Agree about Indiana, framer. Whether they really liked Oladipo, or just hated Ainge, I'm glad they didn't trade George to Boston. As far as Eastern Conference teams I'm going to cheer for, I have an "ABC" rule: Anyone But (the) Celtics

Or as I refer to them, "Chowder Rockets."

And speaking of that, just imagine taking a team that is very easy to dislike and adding C Paul and Melo. There really aren't words.

I haven't been this excited about a player drafted by the Jazz since they drafted Deron Williams.
But unlike the DWill days, when Utah had other solid players, even a couple who made a few all-star games, there just wasn't another franchise player. AK SHOULD have been, but he just didn't care enough after getting the big contract. Boozer could have been, if not for the injures and Kanter-like avoidance of defense.

This edition already has Gobert, an almost certain all-star and likely DPOY. He's paid his dues and will FINALLY get the recognition he deserves.

This Jazz team is going to surprise a LOT of people. We're flying under the radar. That's good.

Mitchell is like a rich man's Dwayne Wade (Mitchell is a better overall shooter and defender). Wade was a great finisher (thanks to his physique and elite athleticism) and a very good passer.

The Heat won with Wade and Shaq. And while Rudy might not score like Shaq, having Rudy and Mitchell (he'll be a better version of Wade) is going to make us a competitive team. And if Exum or Hood step up and play as they're capable, it's going to be amazing.

This is a joke post, right?

Dante was really raw though, and I don't think anybody reasonable expected him to come in to the league and have an impact in his first year. Hell, even with Deron, I was concerned about his inability to get to the rim in his first season. I wanted Chris Paul, and when I watched the championship game with Deron, I thought Felton looked like the better player in that game(only college game I watched of Deron).

I honestly think DM could have a significant impact in his first season, and if he gets the opportunity for minutes, could have a shot at ROY.

After giving it some serious consideration, I've never been this excited about a Jazz rookie. I was around when Malone was a rookie, but no internet back then and we didn't know as much about college players other than local kids.

The best comparison I have to DM, was when Gobert first started to break out and you could see he was going to be special. There was something similar to AK at a point, but I don't really remember exactly when I felt he would be significant player.

I haven't purchased a jersey in a while... the boy has a Gobert... I'll be purchasing two DM jerseys... or maybe a jersey shirt in my case... asap. I haven't felt this confident in a player... maybe ever. Dude is our second star.

I'm in. Gonna get me jersey too.

Lol. Not even close for me. I was never excited about X. I'm probably at my peak excitement about him right now.
My feelings too. Not very excited because I knew he was a HUGE project and only drafted at #5 due to his speed and length. Bust level was always very high. With Mitchell, he's shown from the very first game that he has the "it" factor.

Also think the excitement comes from pre-draft, when he WANTED to work out for Utah. He really shouldn't have, TBH. Most prospects wouldn't work out for a team so far out of their projected draft range.

And his attitude. Dante was passive, Lyles was passive. We've always wanted Favs to show more emotion. Mitchell will need to rein some of his back in, just like Gobert needs to at times.

I like them both and am equally excited for them. I think Exum still has a higher ceiling but Mitchell seems much more likely to reach his ceiling. Either way I'm very excited for both players who both have a good 5 years before even being in their prime years. I just hope they both stay healthy.

Exum was a complete mystery when we drafted him.

The excitement wore off super fast, but I was pumped to actually see him play, way more than Mitchell.

Mitchell definitely needs to learn to finish at the rim, and to absorb contact. He has a bit of Burks in his when he drives, although I think he has a better handle than Burks. But he tends to get a little lost and has a hard time getting the ball up over the defender. But he does look promising in summmer league. I really hope that translates to the regular season, because all too often we have seen summer league super-stars end up playing in China or something.

Fair enough.
And all good reasons for him coming off the bench. Let him have success (and struggle at times) against backups. I'd like to see Mitchell and Dante head up the 2nd unit. But I know Dante believes he can start. Is a Rubio, Dante, Hood combo big enough? Or would opposing SF's eat us alive?
