The Earl Watson Effect

Its not Earl.

Earl isn't helping, but to put the blame purely on Earl Watson is ridiculous.

Y'all bitches is bi-polar.

I'm not blaming him solely, I think it's a combo of him and fatigue and it's a 2 way effect.

Fatigue on Al and Milsap is clear by now since the 4 OT game. yeah, Al has posted great stats, but he's taking a lot more jumpshots. Corbin has been saying he wants to switch out the bigs early which means more time for Favs and Kanter. That's not happening. Why? Because Watson runs a terrible offense for the second group and multiple times, the ball gets fed to the last option during the last seconds of the shot clock. This causes Corbin to think we need more scoring options and so Sap comes in early. And pretty much as soon as Kanter is out, Favors is out by 1-3 dead balls ( sometime it doesn't happen like this), So Al and Sap are getting more minutes = them gettin more gassed = bad defense and bad rebounding. And there you have my reasoning for our losing lately.

Ty Corbin should really read a little bit on this forum. It may help him a lot.

Watson is crap!!! We were winning games with Tinsley as the backup. I can't believe Corbin played Watson the whole 4th quarter against Sacramento... Watson is not a threat a all. Play Tinsley and lets win some games!

even in january when everybody was all over earl's jock, he was never an inspired floor leader. he's the energy guys, he pushes tempo, he plays hard and he doesn't back down from people. he's doing exactly those same things today, but since he's now playing with a backup corps that include D-league level talent carroll and three guys who can't buy cigarettes, we're all somehow less forgiving of the same flaws he had three months ago: he doesn't run the offense well, he doesn't execute well against a zone, and he commits TOs.

tinsley's play has been exceptional every time he's been on the court for us. honestly, whenever i see him play i think he really should be playing back-up pg minutes for a contender. he has shown he possesses the poise, class and efficiency to make a contribution for any team in the league. his attitude and enthusiasm on the bench also appears to be outstanding.

(out of interest, what are the rules around this? could he still negotiate a buy-out and sign elsewhere at this stage of the season?)

i don't wanna get too much into slagging watson because he played some solid ball earlier this season for us. he still does a reasonable job running an offense but his limitations have become more and more evident over the season. anytime he actually puts a shot up i wonder how he's lasted in this league so long.

at any rate, i don't think any of our point guards are guaranteed to be here next year.

Hey did anybody else see Watson's play at the 4th quarter around 7:30 mark when he was taken out?
It went like this:

Watson brings the ball up and Tinsley is getting off the bench around that time.
Watson throws a pass to Hayward and it completely misses. No chance that it would've made it.
Watson goes back towards bench and Ty gives him a stare.

I kinda felt like Watson threw that bad pass on purpose...that was way out of Hayward's reach and Tinsley was just getting in. Maybe I'm making too much of it...but it seemed like there's some sort of drama going around. Again, I might be making too much of nothing, but it stood out to me.

I think that many fail to realize that the 2nd unit looks quite a bit different now than the one Earl was running before his injury. He has a lot less to work with now. Tinsley works better with this group because he is better able to handle having more of the weight on his shoulders.

I agree that Tinsley is a better choice now though. I just don't think that all the blame is on Watson. It is what it is. I still like the idea of keeping both of them.
