What's new

The evidence continues to grow, allmost to rapidly

To be fair we could have drafts Giannas the Greek Freak and Gobert instead of Burke.

The Jazz could've absolutely stole the show that draft, Instead they paid a premium for Trey, who was selected 2 picks before the Rookie of the Year.

BPA, BPA and buying that rudy pick for another BPA.

Team USA member Mason Plumlee was available at 21, so was All first team rookie Tim Hardaway Jr.

I think QS agrees. The fact that he pulled Burke in favor of Exum in a homecoming game, down the stretch and with the game still in doubt, speaks volumes.
He took him out after he picked his 5th foul and was sulking like someone shot his dog.

-Trey Burke is widely considered the top point guard available in the 2013 draft and nothing we found in studying his situational stats would lead us to believe otherwise. He does not stand out in a major way on paper, but ranks well across the board and excels in a few key areas that should aid him in his transition to the next level.

Looking at the bigger picture, Burke's 18.5 possessions per-game, 0.999 overall points per-possessions (PPP), and 11.5% turnover rate all place him in the top-six of those respective categories. Erick Green, C.J. McCollum, and Nate Wolters all rank similarly well by those standards, and maybe even a little better, but Burke's standing in both usage and efficiency are especially impressive considering the quality of defense he faced on a nightly basis in the Big Ten and the pressure associated with being the top threat on a National Championship caliber team.

Burke did his best work as a scorer in the half court, where he once again hovers around the top-five in usage and efficiency. More a facilitator in transition, Burke sports a terrific 4.3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio on the fast break. His biggest weakness relative to his peer group may be his average scoring efficiency in transition, which is mostly due to the fact he got to the line on a sample worse 12.3% of his transition possessions.

Perhaps more so than any position in the NBA, point guards are defined by their ability to excel in one particular situation: the pick and roll. While Trey Burke ranks well in both the number of possessions he used dribble off of ball screens and the rate at which he turned them into points, what is truly remarkable about his numbers in the two-man game is the degree to which he valued the ball. Turning it over on just 8.2% of his pick and roll possessions, Burke's command of the ball makes him the only player with a single-digit turnover percentage.

Aside from the pick and roll, Burke ranks average to above average as a spot-up shooter, isolation scorer, and off screen threat. A 44.7% jump shooter off the catch and effective slasher with his left hand, Burke is a crafty shot creator with an array of weapons at his disposal to get the ball in the basket.

His biggest weapon as a scorer is his pull-up jump shot, which accounted for a sample leading 46.4% of his attempts in the half court last season. Yielding 1.01 points per-shot, Burke's pull-up is on par with Damian Lillard's coming out of Weber State (1 PPP) and was almost more effective for him than a finishing opportunity, where his 1.052 points per-shot ranks below average. It will be worth tracking how Burke fares when he attacks the rim at the next level, as his shooting at the basket and ability to create easy opportunities for himself at the line could be the key to his ability to take the next step as a pro.

LOL. I hear Dennis Lindsey has banned draftexpress from the Jazz offices. Anyone caught reading is summarily executed.

Last years draft was weak.

Burke is simply waiting for the maximum amount of haters to pile up, before he wins thine approval.

The Messiah shall cometh, and the 8th seed shall be brought.

Amen.

Burke's pull-up is on par with Damian Lillard's coming out of Weber State

Hitting on 3 of 4 is pretty good. I don't fault DL for taking a shot on Burke. As I recall, he was actually projected to go a bit higher and when he fell, DL combined assets to move up. You can play the coulda, woulda, shoulda game to death. Burke was going to go in that range. Not sure MCW or McCollum would have been better choices. As you noted, it was a weak draft. Hindsight shows Utah should have stood pat and taken the Greek Freak. But we really needed a PG, Lindsey moved up to get one of the three available.

Truth is....95% of teams ****ed up that draft.

Someone needs to make a thread with the best and most probable trade situation where we can get rid of Burke and Kanter for a pure backup pointguard that's under 30 and somebody that can shoot the ball.

I agree with all of this. The jazz did the right thing.... moved up and got the best point guard (according to the majority) in the draft (a position we needed)
It was just a poor draft.

Hell I wanted then to pick mccollum. That would have sucked too

No need.
We have our pure backup pg already.

who in their right minds would trade for Trey Burke at this point?! There were much better low cost options available this off-season, they cant turn back now. the Jazz paid too high of a price to trade him for a pittance right now, the jazz feet are firmly planted in the ground on this one, I'm certain the Jazz value him way higher than the other teams, only because they'd like to save face.

He was supposed to be battle-tested... Thats supposed to show up every night, not every once in a while.. He looks like hes struggling to me, and im not even talking about his game, dat body language is terribad, dude goes from scowling to hanging his head...

Exum has played well, but there is no way he's ready to play over 25 minutes a game. He doesn't have the stamina nor the experience. Quin has to either fix Trey or DL has to trade him for a starting point. Kanter and Burke for Monroe and DJ Augustine.

probaby need to add a pick on that

edit: unless monroe is expiring?

No need.

Good point, I was just thinking off the whim. Let's have the focus of the thread be on how we can send off our junk in trade for a high pick or big man who can shoot. I want Karl Towns.

A lot of people were on the Burke bandwagon leading up to the draft. We can play this game with every draft.

The Hype-nitis sets in every year, The experts are wrong... every year.... does that mean the ends justify the means? we dont learn from Yinka Dare?? just chalk it up to bad luck, and move on??

I refuse to accept that crap as the status quo.. I know for a fact, that most people are terrible at their jobs, especially old people, that does not preclude these scouts, mock draft websites and espn on-air personalities.
