The Gordon Hayward mistake has screwed the Jazz for years to come

I thought this thread was about the Jazz signing Hayward to a Max deal. For some fans (not just Jazz fans) race is an issue but if there are still organizations out there that look at race as a factor when selecting players then they would suck year after year. I don't recall too many talking about George being better than Hayward coming out of college, I might be wrong but all the things I read had them both in the range where they were drafted to the mid first round.

Now if Hayward was projected to be picked 28th and the Jazz took him over George then you might have a point but in reality you don't have a point because your accusation is stupid.

I'm late to this discussion, but it rankles me every time someone plays the race card in discussing Jazz personnel decisions. First of all, a little history about Utah professional basketball and race: in the mid-70s, the Utah Stars became the first professional basketball team to have an all-black starting five, including such notables as Zelmo Beatty, Jimmy Jones, Willie Wise and Ron Boone. That belied the notion that Utah was biased toward white players. Second, following the racist illogic displayed in the original post, Dallas must have been a race Mecca for choosing a white German, Detlef Schrempf, ahead of future perennial All-Star Karl Malone. You may not remember that Hayward and George actually had their Utah tryout together -- and word from the tryout was that Gordon dominated. I'm not a huge fan of KOC or Gordon, but I believe the Jazz chose whom they thought at the time would be the better player, regardless of race. Can't we put the alleged Utah "white bias" in the garbage heap of history where it belongs? Of course, the real racists are the ones who see "racialism" everywhere.

^^
Well, you can't really use the Stars as an example. The team was a transplant from LA and the players were pretty much in place when they came (just sayin). But it's clearly a troll's argument. As cowhide said, George and Hayward were in a group of 6-7 players that were pretty much a toss-up. Hayward made a better impression at the workout than George did, undoubtedly because of his multi-skills (he was a PG growing up, IIRC, until he had a big growth spurt). I distinctly remember KOC referring to drafting someone that could create a mismatch at his position. Pretty sure he meant Hayward being so much taller than most SG's.

Obviously, if you do the draft over, you take George before Hayward. But you also take him over Aminu, Udoh, Johnson, etc. Guess you could argue he's the best player from that draft, so 8 other teams should be kicking themselves as well.

I will say this, though...Indiana sure had a helluva draft getting George AND Stephenson. Arguably the best players in each round of the draft. That's how you build a team!

I cant say I wanted George (I remember sitting in school hoping Utah drafted Ed Davis, Greg Monroe or Hassan Whiteside) but I definately without a doubt was very high on Stephenson, always knew he would turn out a gun.

Early on I was intrigued by Whiteside and thought the Jazz should trade down. Then he started to fall in workouts and I jumped off that train. Proud to say I called Aldrich a bust waiting to happen from day 1. But I'll admit (since anyone can look it up) that I was in favor of Xavier Henry. OOPS!

I have long believed that DL will shop Hayward quietly at the deadline. It all depends on what he thinks the market for Hayward will bear as an RFA. My guess is 12 or less, he holds firm. But if he thinks a 12 plus offer is out there, likely determined by private conversations he has with teams trying to acquire him, he might pull the trigger.

My personal opinion is to trade Hayward. He's not worth 12, barely worth 10, and I hate paying big long term money to guys who aren't athletes. Hayward could easily become Dunleavy in the wrong turn of fate, and I prefer paying big money to guys who are so unique physically that they won't drastically fall off after recovering from injury. With Hayward, one bad injury and he's worthless.

Last I checked, George has more MVP awards than Hayward. 0 to 0.

Last time I checked his scoring championship number was twenty thousand times the number he had. I feel like I'm gonna adopt this OP. He is just fantastic.

This forum is clearly tanking, right??

I've heard there is a young canadian looking to join the internet next year, and we want to pick him up in the draft. Some say he could surpass your post count one day.

what would ty's role even be?

ty has given him the MOST PLAYING time out of anybody.

and he has been given the green light to chuck up shots non stop too.
