I think they should only limit it to first pick protection. No team should be able to trade away the first pick in the draft. they should be protected from themselves too.

I think not being able to cut players has more to do with tanking than anything else. Players won't tank if they know their paycheck is on the line. If every game is a tryout for the next team, they would bring it a lot more. If you know you can be cut, you won't be willing to sit out, or slack off if your coach asks you to.
