Tonight is a win for basketball and the culture of the league.

This thread will be moved, but let's let this discussion have front page.
 
I feel bad for their hardcore fans because we have been there and suffered the same thing. But good for Dirk and company.
 
I dunno. I think this win for the Mavs helps to influence the Jazz's direction. The Jazz need a star player but a really good and deep bench can make up for the lack of second all-nba player.

The Mavs also had two great rim defending centers.

The Jazz had never won a title. The Heat just won one 5 years ago. Big difference, no sympathy from me.

Probably the first time since the '94 Rockets and '90 Pistons a team won the title with 1 superstar surrounded by a bunch of role players.
 
No sympathy for a 7 or 8 year old kid who really never celebrated their other title? Give me a break.
 
I was pulling for the west. Though I do have to admit I was pulling for the Mavs, more than any other reason, so I don't have to listen to the media slobberfest debating the DYNASTY. That would wreck talk radio for me.
 
Miami is easy to root against, but I rooted for the Mavs because of the way they play. You need stars, but teams win, and that's why the Mavs are the best team on Earth right now.

Perfectly put. I wholeheartedly agree. They have been playing as perfect a version of basketball as I've ever seen.
 
Yes, Dallas plays wonderful ball. It's great win for everything good about basketball.

Now let the debate begin about which of the players from the draft the Jazz should pick: the one who's been compared to Terry, the one who's been compared to Marion, the one who's been compared to Barea, the one who's been compared to Nowitzki, or the one who's (at least once) been compared to Chadler.

Well, I also left out a creative, dynamic coach who played every angle brilliantly. The zoning, the substitutions, freaking Cardinal and Manhimi, the stagger screen of game 2, swapping out Barea for Desean. And I watched Dallas through all three rounds. He tortured Portland's little guards posting up Marion, and then never went back to that because LA and Miami had the personnel to defend it. He played Barea HUGE minutes against the Lakers because he was death on them. Played him very little comparatively in this series.

-Lost Caron Butler early in the season but DeShawn stepped into a starting role and shot lights out from 3 in the Finals as well as providing toughness for the Mavs.
-Peja shot lights out against the Lakers and barely played against Miami.
-Barea was supposed to be their 3rd PG (until Rodrigue Beaubois broke his foot in August) got hurt and ended up being a difference maker against the Lakers and the Heat.
-Brian Cardinal barely played in the previous series and played great team defense (as well as a couple of timely 3's) in the Finals.
-Haywood goes down and Ian Mihimi got abused by Chris Bosh - but did hit that huge jumper at the 3rd-qtr buzzer.

Guys going down, guys stepping up and guys who go from never playing to contributing. Just an ultimate team effort by Dallas this season.

Look, I understand the LeBron hatred - but "everything good about basketball"? The Mavericks have a 90 million dollar payroll and continually operate at a loss because of a billioinaire who has nothing better to do with his money and is in the process of being sued by his minority owners for running the franchise so carelessly.

Which is going to make everything even more interesting when a new CBA is worked out. It is tough for small market teams to win a championship in this league.
 
The NBA is the only sport in the United States where it's harder than all heck to win a championship
