"The Jazz are bound to shoot [Milos] Teodosic an offer sheet."

Thought he was the best player on the Serbian squad at the Olympics. Three years at 26 sounds like a coup when you consider what Hill wants and his injury record. I'd rather sign Jrue Holliday as he's a proven commodity but in lieu of that this might be our best option. So smooth I think bust is out of the question, could be epic.

Granted, I have never seen him play, but at first glance I think Teodosic could make a ton of sense.

Call it 3 years/$30 million, that's right in the wheelhouse of the cap room we have to use by July. Plus, it's not an astronomical enough sum that we couldn't feel good about bringing him off the bench if Dante really is ready to take the reins over the next 1-2 seasons. And his contract would expire at age 33 when his skills will likely start to decline. Plus, Quin loves him and he's 6'5" so he fits in well with our size/length mantra (though I hear he's a sieve defensively).

Paying George Hill ~$25M for 4-5 years is a really difficult pill to swallow, for a lot of reasons. If Teodosic can play at a high level, this could be a great workaround.

2016-17 - $8M

2017-18 - $7.5M

2018-19 - $7M

2019-20 - $6.5M

This ends up being a 3-year $21M deal for the team going forward. By giving him $8M up front it's a 3-year $29M deal for Teodosic which is right at his asking price.

This would be an extremely good contract idea for both sides.

You cannot give him money for this current year. This Locke fantasy needs to stop. I asked the guy that keeps the salary caps for RealGM if this is possible at all. here's his response:

It can't. Unless I am really missing something. I'll re-look, but as far as I know, he'll have to wait until the summer like everyone else.

Trades can happen once a team is eliminated from the playoffs, but any signings are limited to signing players you hold Draft Rights on, which the Jazz don't for Teodosic.

Somehow I doubt Locke would just bring it up out of nowhere unless somebody like DL brought it up.

I agree... I think the difference is he is not draft eligible and did not play in the nba this year. Although I think Locke could absolutely be wrong I'm not sure he's tricky enough with the cap to really think this through.

If we get this guy, and don't bring Hill back, I'd really like to see some of our other money (MLE and anything else) spent on a solid backup 4/5 who can kick *** on defense. I have no idea how much McGee is gonna get, probably way too much and around 3 years/45M if not more, which we couldn't afford, but he is someone who comes to mind. My point is, if we sign this basketball wizard who blows on d, I wanna ensure we have kickass defense behind him for 48 minutes a game.

We gonna get the perfect Gobert backup in the draft with Jonathan Jeanne with the 24th pick. Don't you worry about that kick *** defensive 4/5.

Javale will get closer to 3 for 4.5 than 3/45.

Most of the people on this board who have even a decent understanding of the CBA know more than Locke does. I still remember an article he wrote one year about Utah's options in the offseason, and he went off on some extremely unrealistic scenario about trading Raja Bell, while leaving out completely Utah's most likely trade asset, which happened to be the TPE we got for Memo.

Locke is a great stats guy, but not very familiar with CBA stuff. No doubt in my mind that he is getting this idea from somebody else in the jazz Organization.

I'm not really convinced either way. Smitty is pretty reliable, but he sounded like he wasn't completely sure, and this is definitely a rare situation with a foreign player who isn't draft eligible.

I honestly wouldn't even say that Locke is a great stats guy. I don't really like his use of numbers more often than not. He takes numbers and tries to spin them into whatever he already thinks. He'll use single game plus-minus, he'll use small sample size shooting numbers, he'll ignore stats as well if he doesn't like what they say. I do think he is very valuable because he gets lots of glimpses into the minds of the organization, and I think often he is used as a way to get ideas out to the fans from the team. His PAAC rating or whatever is decent in certain ways.

I do hope he was right about being able to use the cap space, though.

He could just be wrong. Other journalists have made mistakes about the CBA too. I've made assumptions about the CBA before that have been completely wrong. Nobody is fault-less. It happens.
