I have been thinking a little bit about how an isolation player can fit into the Jazz system. Alec Burks really appears to have all the physical tools to be a great scorer in the league. The only thing that is really up in the air is if he has heart and the mental strength and fortitude to be great. Personally, i think the Burks is going to be a top 15 scorer in the league 5 years from now. watching films of him at colorado leaves me convinced he'll be a stud. The fact is that he can do some things that not too many other guys can do. he has a great combination of length for an SG, athleticism, Height, speed, quickness, agility, and skill. he's very smooth offensively.

with all that being said, and believing that Favors, Kanter, and Hayward are going to be really Good NBA Basketball Players, i see the Jazz mirroring the Boston Celtics a little bit. i understand that we don't have a rajon Rondo, but devin Harris is one injury free season away from likely being a top 10 PG in the league. Favors has the potential to be much better than an older Kevin Garnett. Although Hayward is not as great a shooter as Ray Allen, we have seen flashes of a consistant and reliable shooting stroke, plus i think hayward will end up being a better all around player than Ray Allen. I really think Kanter is going to be better than Perkins... Easy!

So that leaves the Burks/Pierce Comparison. Have you ever noticed How do the Celtics use Pierce at the end of games? they run isolation plays for him at the top of the key and just let him go to work. If someone comes to double he passes to unmanned teamates for a wide open shot. It works! I think that can be a great way to use Burks if he matures to the offensive level i believe he will attain.

I understand that i am basing a lot of this thread on potential, but i have not seen a lot of guys come out of college that could do what Burks can, and we all know that Favors and Hayward are going to be good and produce if they are given the minutes. Kanter played well Against NBA competition this summer: Dirk, Gasol, Kamen (not to mention Europe has some other very good players that he was pitted against.
 
I don't follow the Celtics well enough to make the comparison, but I definitely think Fes=Scalabrini

Bring back Fes!!!
 
it is too romantic to think we are gonna dominate next 15 years, first of all, even if these players turn out to be as good as we hope, still are we gonna keep all of them together in the salt lake city?

we should be realistic, and first try to make a team chemistry. Then we will see how it goes, while i am also optimistic we will be contender in a few years still it is early to talk about that. Also as you said, Harris is nothing close to rondo and he will get worse. We have to find a good pg for sure.

Look, I was a big a fan of the Burks pick as anyone on this board, but I just don't understand your comments. He has all the tools? I mean, he has pretty good tools, but nothing most other NBA lottery wings don't have (many who have become bust). It all comes down to does he have the "it" factor. I think he does, but I don't think to the point to were he is going to be a top 15 scorer (top 15 has meant averaging north of 21 ppg the past 10 seasons). Also consider the fact the Jazz will probably have a pretty balanced offensive attack.

Also, what Burks film are you speaking of? Simply highlights, or actual games? If you have the former, please share. I'm craving basketball.

Hmm... Well, my point is simply this: Burks can do things on the offensive end that no other SG or SF can do in his draft class, and if you want to count the last 3 drafts, Tyreke Evans will be the only guy you can find that may prove to be a more elite offensive player. Burks is going to be dominant on the offensive end. So if you asking me if i think Burks is going to average more than 21 points a game in 5 years, the answer to the interrogatory is yes. Burks has a very unique combination of skills, and he'll only become more skilled with time! :)
 
if the owners get their way in the lockout, dynasties won't exist because they will have to be broken up for salary cap reasons.

also KG, even the 2011 edition was a top 20 player so favors will be very fortunate to reach that level. He definitely has the physical tools though.

Favors will be top 15 in 3 years! mark my words! Kg is the Defensive Anchor for the celtics, and Favors has 12 to 13 years ahead of him of being an elite defensive Big! also, Just imagine when he adds some more muscle and finally develops a post game. one of the great things about favors is that he has a great shooting touch around the basket... big advantage that Dwight Howard does not have!!
 
I LOVE Alec Burks. In fact, I think years from now he is considered the steal of the draft. With that being said, the OP's comparisons with the Boston Celtics is wishful thinking. Even if Burks turns into a top 15 scorer that can take it to the rack on isolations, there is no shooter like Ray Allen on this roster that Burks can kick out to for wide open 3's. Maybe Favors or Kanter can become a Garnett-like presence down low, but Garnett can also float out and knock down the 15-20 footer when Pierce drives to the hole. How do we know either player will ever develope that part of their game? I'm not too concerned about the Jazz having a Rondo type player @ PG because I think Rondo is a mediocre PG who benefits from the players he's surrounded by. Put him on the Warriors and the guy is an afterthought.

I do like the way Utah is building their roster. Once the D-Will was moved, I was on here saying how you build a true championship contender from the inside-out. I think Utah acquiring Favors in the D-Will deal and then drafting Kanter shows us that Utah is at least trying to do it that way. I think Hayward and Burks will compliment what Utah is trying to do very nicely. However, even if it works out great, I don't think it's going to look like a Boston blueprint.

Favors will have an Solid mid range J and even though we don't have a Allen type shooter, we will make up for that in other ways!
