The Jazz should looked to sign free agent Wilson Chandler??

I was just throwing a possibility out there for Jazz nation to comment on.
I say re-sign Kirilenko, at 7-8 million for two years and bring him off the bench. Sign Wilson Chandler with the remaining coming off of AK's free agency.... and start him at SF. Re-sign Earl Watson for the veteran minimum, and you have a competing team.
Starters would be: Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors, Wilson Chandler, Gordon Hayward, and Devin Harris.
Then you have the one-four punch off of the bench of the Millsap-Kirilenko-Okur-Kanter combo.
Not to mention the possibilities of Miles, Burks, Evans, and even Millsap as well, all providing sparks at both wing positions.
To me, sounds like a killer team..... and at the same time.... providing plenty of minutes for our young guys to develop, without sacrificing to many wins in the process.
And the reason I say Favors starts in place of Millsap, is simply the fact that it fixes the problem of Big Al's slow lateral quickness in the pick and roll defense.

Good post.

As much as we love Sap he cannot start alongside Big Al. It doesn't work. We need to get rid of one of them via trade, or bring Sap off the bench.
We can trade Big Al if we must, but both cannot start for us.

I personally would start Harris, Hay, Cj, Favors, Big Al(Sap if Al is traded)

Not sure if Chandler fits the Jazz system after playing in Denver and NY. Not opposed to looking into it though. We need to give ourselves more options than just AK.
Let's at least take a serious look at some other guys. I agree Watson needs to be resigned. He's a good back up.

Millsap can't start but CJ can? Yikes. Millsap is a better 3 than CJ, and a better 4 than Big Al. Hell, I'd say he's the best overall player on the Jazz roster.

Silencer, you need to silently do some salary-cap math.

Capwise, I don't know if the Jazz could've re-signed both Chandler and Kiri under the old (57% BRI), much less the new draconian deal. Feel free to spell out the numbers that show that it can be done.

Also, the notion that the Jazz would pay $8 million per year for an aging SF backup is quite ambitious.

Then again, they paid $10 million per year for an aging C backup.

I'd love the Jazz to resign AK at $7-8 million, but previous experience w/ Jazz management is leading me to believe they will sign him for $10million.

Brace yourselves. It's going to be a sad, sad day.
 
I like the overall line ups. Wilson Chandler is dynamic enough that it should open things up for Big Al, Favors and Hayward. I agree with some of the other post about signing AK for 7-8 million for 2 or 3 years. I love AK's game but I would hope that if he resigns it would be closer to about 4 or 5 million a year.

The idea of Millsap, Kanter, Watson, CJ and Burks off the bench makes me excited.
 
I've thought of Wilson Chandler too. He is a good athlete as well. I personally want to see if Sap can adjust over a season at the SF, first. This is no problem since Chandler is playing in China and can not get out of his contract. The earliest he comes back is in March I believe.
 
Maybe for 2012-2013. Chandler has signed in China. The Chinese league is not allowing players to have an out-clause which would allow them to return to the NBA if the lockout ends. So Chandler, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin and any others who sign in China will not be in the NBA until the Chinese season has ended.
 
Also Wilson Chandler is a Restricted Free Agent. Denver could match any offer. So we would have to overpay for him too. Also I fairly certain you wouldn't have money for Chandler and AK. That said I think Wilson would be a really good player for us.

Wilson Chandler got a $3.1 million qualifying offer from Denver but did not accept it, but it allowed Denver to match any contract.

His contract is less than the QO, so he really was taking a chance by going to China.

This has the Jazz committed to 55.6 mil next year with 9 players. Speculation on the new cap figure has been 58 to 64 mil. The luxury tax level would normally be around 70 mil. Kanter and Burks will be signed for about 5.5 mil. So that adds up to 61.1. There isn't enough cap space to make an offer to Chandler. It would have to be some kind of sign and trade. Memo or AK for Chandler is what would make sense.
 
I don't see the Jazz giving up Okur for nothing simply for the opportunity to spend more money. They'd still have to pay for both; the former would simply not count against the cap.

I do believe it can be done, and Chandler seems to be the type that would thrive in a Jazz offense (depending on what Corbin does for sure). He's like a Wes Matthews, with a better jumper.
As far as re-signing Kirilenko goes.... I said 7-8 million for two years. Which would be 3.5 - 4 million a year. I think AK would take it, depending on offers and other locations of course.
As far as them signing an aging Okur for 10 million...... that deal was done years ago with an entirely different team and coaching staff.

Yeah I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard to get done...... but (in my opinion), this team can be twice as good as the team was last year at their peak play.
You throw Chandler in the mix, or maybe someone else like him, and you've got a group of guys that can take on the Heats, the Mavs, and the Bulls.
But just like some posts were talking about, with Chandler's unique situation in China..... he might be the perfect guy.
He's also just at the right price to get keep the Jazz under a supposed hard cap, and still have a great all around team of veterans and young guys.

That is true about percentages speaking there. But at the same time Chandler has logged a lot more minutes than Matthews over his course with New York and Denver. Now I suppose I would have to pull up the full stat line, compare the players playing around him, and of course the offenses each team ran to fully compare.
I think Matthews has played for some better offenses, obviously Sloan to be mentioned here.
But I don't even mention Matthews much, because we all know he won't end up back here by really any stretch of the imagination.

Chandler's jumper was terrible before last season. Last year he attempted less three-pointers per game than Wes and still shot only .350 vs. Wes's .407. Wes also averaged more points per game than Chandler last season. Wes is a much better shooter than Chandler. It's not even close.
 
I think it doesnt make sense to sign Chandler if we will resign Kirilenko but if he will be gone, then why not?
