The Jefferson Question?

The Thriller

With Kanter showing some signs of having a very nice post game and Favors playing with confidence, what is to be done with Jefferson? Not only are those two youngsters playing great ball but the Jazz also look better with those two playing. The ball moves around, the offense doesn't stall, Millsap, Favors, Kanter, Harris, Burks, and Hayward look better since they're all sharing the ball and not just watching it stop on the low block.

What is to be done against OKC? Do the Jazz want to ruin the cool vibe they've got going? Can they bring Jefferson and his $14 million dollar contract off the bench?

What will Ty Corbin do? What do you think should be done?

We certainly can't bench Jefferson, but minutes between him and Millsap need to be adjusted to have more for Favors/Kanter.

This to me is the only sensible and real option the Jazz have.

Rest easy for now, coach Jefferson.

BTW, the idea of resorting to amnestying Jefferson is interesting in that it's very likely most of his salary would be paid by another team. That seems last ditch, but it's a nice last ditch option.

Also, I'm starting to worry that the Jazz have too high a quantity of good assets for them to all work. Maybe he could be paired to get a true great player? The Jazz have kept themselves impressively flexible.

i go and shoot him in the leg,,u guys collect money and send me every month, till i get out

I just want to be on record that Jefferson is a good player. It's mostly that with where the Jazz are at, I know what I want, and I know it's not Al.

The only problem is that teams need to be under the salary cap to even bid on a player that has been released via the amnesty provision. So would a non-contending, rebuilding team want to bid on Big Al, knowing that he only has a year left? If Al has that much value, it will be due to his expiring contract. And the same holds true for Harris. Also, with the amnesty clause, fewer teams need to make trades for expirings. I fully expect KOC to make a deal with the Memo TPE, since that represents $0 that a team needs to take back. It's likely both the Harris and Jefferson contracts will have to be kept at least through the deadline and possibly until they expire and come off our books - just like Utah did with AK's deal.

Amnesty Clause Basics
- Each team is permitted to waive 1 player and have 100% of the player’s salary removed for Cap and Tax purposes
- Once a player is waived under the Amnesty Clause, they are placed in a modified waiver process available only to teams under the Salary Cap.
- Teams with room under the cap can then submit a claim on players by bidding to pay a portion of the player’s previous salary
- Once part of a player’s salary is claimed by a new team, the old team will continue to pay the remaining amount (though it won’t count against the Cap or Tax).

I agree the flexibility this team has going forward is great. They have some nice pieces and room to add more while staying under the tax zone and trying to make a competitve team. The next few seasons and the deals they are able to get will be very interesting to say the least.

Minutes are going to have to be re-distributed. Al is a nice player, but our offense just flows better without him (sorry Al). Ty is going to have to re-distribute minutes for the rest of the season. After that, Al could be traded or packaged for a higher pick or a sharp shooter.

I hate to be the downer here, but Jefferson will be returning from a funeral. Coach will revert back to Jefferson's usual spot. I could see a small reduction in Jefferson's minutes. I think the only real options are long term. I hope they involve moving Jefferson. I hope it is before next season...

I like Jefferson, I think he gives generally good effort and, to his credit, hasn't had issues being in a small market. You have to agree with the OP that he is not the best fit for this team/offense.

Oh and I don't think he should close games, but I think its a can of worms chemistry-wise to do otherwise.

The bulls have no problem benching Boozer to close games if they think it places them in a better position to win. Ty needs to grow a pair.

Indiana has a pretty good young center in Hibbert. I don't see them wanting Jefferson. But a trade to Millwaukee would make sense. Udoh is not ready for big minutes. Bucks could easily start Big Al and bring Udoh off the bench to back up both the 4 and 5.

Hibbert needs help on that team. West isn't/won't be enough. Having either Al or Roy on the floor at all times would be a luxury for them. I think they're interested, especially at this price.

I would shoot myself if I were a Bucks fan.

Brandon Jennings, Monta, and Black Hole all on the same team....

Quite possibly, the 3 biggest ball hogs in the entire league... On the same team....

Amazing!

I've been saying all year that Jefferson should anchor the second unit.

Not a bad idea. Just think how he could clean up on backup centers.

I'm still not sure Kanter is ready to be a starter. Sure, he is doing better lately, and he was great against Bynum last night. But it was one game. He is still only 19.
I'll trust Ty *ducks*

I think it depends on what Kanter and Favors do from here on. If they continue to play great, I think they'll get minutes. But if they show more inconsistency, then you can expect Al to get his minutes. Al is consistent, and coaches like a player that they can rely on.

Burks got a lot of minutes the past few games because he played great. Sure, he got a chance because of Bell's injury, but Corbin could have given those minutes to CJ and Howard, and even Hayward can play the 2. Corbin playe him a lot of minutes because he was playing so well.
