The Lauri Thread

I honestly don't know what you are arguing about? The post you originally responded to was about people who say he will both play well enough to prevent us from getting a pick AND play bad enough to tank his trade value. I do know what his contract is, and I do know that scenario is possible, I just think of all the scenarios to focus on that is the most miserable.

I can see the logic in trading Lauri, I'm definitely not 100% against it. Honestly my opinion is continuing to evolve.

It just felt like you were trying to get a "gotcha" by trying to make a contradiction that's only a contradiction if you ignore his contract.

I like to focus on the things that are most impactful in either direction. Something being miserable or not doesn't really change it's likelihood or impact....It just so happens to be the case that bringing back Lauri creates potential for a miserable scenario. I don't really see that as dwelling, it's just giving consideration to the most consequential things.

If you've followed me at all you would know I'm not a "gotcha" guy, I could see where you could get that though, so no big deal.

I've already stated that the front office should consider all of the potential outcomes of keeping Lauri, so I guess we are on the same page.

He got frozen in restricted free agency and did what any player would do on their first non-rookie scale contract would do: find money. Cleveland was the only team that wanted to do what it took to get him and pay him (though I was pretty obnoxious that we needed to grab him as he was flapping in the wind for weeks into free agency). He didn’t sign an extension.
You are not being wrong but I think you are arguing a minor detail. My point was broader: Lauri never did anything to change his NBA trajectory of being stuck on bad teams. Players who truly want to play on better teams find a way to do it even when it costs them something: by taking less money, requesting a trade outright or making their displeasure public, exerting their influence as the team leader etc. Lauri seems to be the type of a person who just...goes along with the circumstances and never takes an active role in shaping his own destiny.

He is incredibly quiet and non-assertive for being the leader of a terrible team... and he never even tried to become a star player until the Jazz encouraged him and outright pushed him into that role 3 years ago. Lauri is like anti-Butler and anti-Kobe.

People worry that he may not be on board with the continuation of the long-term rebuild but most likely he will be just fine with it.

I second very much to that assessment, most in-deep sports followers In Finland would say the same. Family and stable environment means to Lauri too much for him to start pushing things around him. It's good for a family man, but it's bad for his chances to win anything meaningful with his team. His hope is Jazz becomes great and he'll dir or gets traded and that team will be great.

Yeah, I did not mean it in a bad way. It is simply a kind of the stoic attitude of doing the best you can and hoping that other people do it as well. Is it that different from the attitude of John Stockton, for example? And if so, then Lauri can patiently wait until the Jazz are good again.

When did we decide to replace Lauri’s history with the Bulls with fan fiction that he never cared about anything?

Is there a joke I’m missing out on? What gives people the confidence to make up stuff so easily disproven? Not only is Markannen’s discontent in Chicago one of the worst kept secrets in the league, but he actually did the damn thing and became an all star.
