The local sports media totally dropped the ball

Ok, Sloan retires, Deron is traded.

How is it that we haven't heard a peep from the local sports media about any problems brewing in Jazzland?
Two years ago, when the Jazz imploded with the Boozer/Korver/gf issue, the local press was talking a lot about the discord in the Jazz lockerroom. They never got specific, but they were reporting.

Now Jerry is out and Deron is gone, and we never heard a peep about issues that were leading up to this. Locke is with the team full time and said nothing.
This is all pretty major. It doesn't just happen.

The local media has no sources. The only people with connections are at 1320 and they don't leak **** due to their affiliation with the team. 1320 should not call themselves journalists, they are shills for the organization. Locke acts blind-sided by everything that happens. Maybe he really doesn't have any idea of what's going on.

1280 has Hans who is an emotional Jazz fan and ex-NFL player with 0 NBA/Jazz connections. The afternoon show has two fresh out of college football players with 0 connections (except Jan who is kind of friends with Deron, but like Deron would tell him anything worthwhile). Then it's Monson who is likely hated by everyone in the organization.

The Tribune has an incompetent Steve Luhm who is only now saying that he heard complaints from sources about Deron's attitude over the past few weeks. The other main Trib Jazz guy is new to the market this year and hasn't had time to get good sources.

The DesNews doesn't even seem to try very hard, but they did seem to break the Sloan retirement. DJ Jazzy Jody tweets "breaking news" later than Locke...which is late.

Add on top of this that the Jazz front office has been together for years and is very very tight lipped. This makes it difficult for rumors to leak. Even "sources" were saying that the Sloan/KOC/Miller meeting after the Bulls game wasn't anything big. I don't even think most people outside of a select few know anything except for InsideJazztehMan!!!1.

Maybe because there isn't as much controversy as you think? Do you WANT there to be controversy, like a million hidden pillow fort Torrey Ellis incidents?

Should they just start making up news for news sake, like how ESPN made Deron Williams a villain, you all bought it, and now our team has been completely rehauled?

Local media was probably preparing the Alaskan fishing trip piece or Deer Hunting interviews with local hunters. I haven't lived in Utah for awhile but back in the 80s the sports guys would talk more about fishing and hunting then baseball. I remember one night they skipped giving baseball scores to show an fishing trip by the local sports guy. He said sorry we ran out of time to give the baseball score right in the middle of the pennant races.

I respect the work that the Trib does. BTS is great. I think if he genuinely knew something for a fact, he would tell us.

He's about the only guy in SLC sports media that I think deserves his job. Every single personality on 1320 KFAN is just pathetically bad.

Ben Bagley is probably one of my most hated people in the sports world. The guy is just such an idiot and the way he and that fat **** Scotty G talk down to fans while saying such stupid things makes me furious.

That was all well said. I can't stand when Ben Bagley fills in and actually hosts (I can't stand him any time, but anyways). Ben and Scotty both make outlandish statements as fact and make huge generalizations and state them as fact.

I remember one segment a couple weeks ago where Scotty was putting forward some generalizations and statements as obvious facts and Boler kept calling him out and disagreeing. Scotty kept getting flustered when someone disagreed. Scotty and Ben always act like they know the pulse of "jazz nation" and it is usually way off from what I read here and hear from friends/family. They have no clue.
