The Move Forward Plan - NO TANK DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD

Ben Simmons and Lonzo Ball... we might even get a pick or two to take on them... shots at reclamation projects with low risk(expiring contracts). And if they actually get healthy and recover, they both have some of the things this roster is lacking the most - playmaking and unselfishness, defensive length and versatility.
I think Lonzo is a much bigger longshot but I actually like him as a player if he is healthy. Ben I would be worried he keeps it together and plays well and then you have a scary next contract to consider. Physically I think Ben is a better bet but mentally not so much.

Eh...idk about that. Ben/Lonzo can be part of a move forward strategy as low risk buys.
Also having a bunch of space helps us going forward.

That is really not the purpose of this thread. It’s just a way for pro-tank guys to throw out trades that are faux buys.
If we just ignore the tank thing for a moment. If those reclamation projects actually succeed, both of them have some of the things this team is missing the most - playmaking, unselfishness, defense. So... even if it's not those specific players(if you don't like that tanking connotations of such trades), we probably need players like them...

I guess... Dejounte probably fits the best here from the players that actually have any value and you can actually rely on to make your team better, rather than just ... taking a shot on uncertainty.

It's not that hard to decide on Ben. It's a big fat no. I dont really care how well he plays this upcoming year. He has massive red flags even when 100% healthy and he makes roster building incredibly incredibly difficult.

I'm always team Lonzo and I've previously supported the idea of Ben Simmons reclamation. Less enthused about Simmons but I would grab both if we could.

Right....it is kind of those situations where I think to myself, "what are we afraid of". It's not as if we are pinning the fate of the franchise on them. It's a low investment of....removing unwanted long term salary? IMO the counterargument would be that John Collins is simply a better player than Ben and will be going forward.

If we are truly going after this kind of player, I think we missed on not trading for DJ earlier. His reported price was super low. He totally balled out when Trae was out.

Lonzo might be done we don’t even know what’s going on with him and I’m just personally good with Simmons way too many red flags. It would basically be a salary cap dump in my eyes if we traded for him. Which is not necessarily bad but he’s a Westbrook type of trade to me.

Both of them might be done. That's why you might even get some value for taking on those contracts.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I can't see a 'quick fix' with what the Jazz have. Our roster right now is the worst in the league. Our defense is the worst in the league. Our turnovers is the worst in the league. Lavine has been on a loser team for his entire career. I can't even believe people would want Lonzo, the dude's career is over. We need a a 'cleansing' of the team...... and a true one

I don't think anyone has talked about quick fixes or thinks we're somehow going to be really competitive with any move. It's the idea, as the thread title says, of "mov[ing] forward." It's kind of like the opposite of Cousin Eddie...

This is also the third Randy Quaid reference in as many days.

If we are going to consider Bridges and his red flags then Simmons red flags shouldn't really be an issue.

Lonzo had the meniscus transplant surgery. Maybe it worked. Either way... if the guys don't work they come off the books. Having $40-50M in cap space next year is a good thing moving forward. Especially since all the more punitive cap measures will start happening.

Simmons red flags are medically related as well as other stuff. It’s not really the same as Bridges.

Cy said he didn't care if he was 100% healthy and played well so...

Also with Bridges we should consider that he is one domestic violence incident away from being banned or serving a LONG suspension. You will not get cap relief for that type of thing either. So even if he is cheap... he is risky.

In addition to being just a gross acquisition.

Bridges red flags are just moral/availability due to the law. NBA players like him and seem to want to play with him.

Simmons red flags are effort and his mental health in relation to playing basketball, not to mention his fear of getting fouled/shooting FT's or scoring teh basketball.

Not even comparable and you continue to make the weirdest points possible just for the sake of making a stupid argument.

I think that is baked into his cost. On the surface he is 26 years old and averaged 21/7.3/3.3 last year.
