The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

This. Why give up assets for Collins, it makes no sense at all. Unless it is part of a bigger move or something, but he just isn't a good fit right now, and I don't see him as a future piece either.

That said, if they get him and he kills it, I hope this gets brought up by all the vindictive people on the site who live for internet gotchas. That would be the best kind, to be wrong winning a championship. I'll take it!

Only people who get stuff brought up on are the ones who speak in absolutes, put lmfao after every response to a post and act like they know everything. So… sorry to break it to you it’s not happening to you.

Now you really should reconsider this take because agreeing with Cy likely isn’t going to age well based on history.

Even a blind squirrel something something...

We should have extra confidence in taking underperforming guys in not exactly the best situations. We have already proven we can get the most out of players with multiple guys already. Collins is the exact type of player we should target. Should we give up a ton of assets? Of course not. Would I give up a player or two and a first? Absolutely.

Atlanta giving Schlenk the Dennis Lindsey treatment huh.

RJ is better than any singular player we got.
lmfao

How lame you got to be to criticize talking in absolutes on a fan forum? Am I supposed to preface everything I write with "this is my opinion" when that should be incredibly obvious?

He is the type of buy low guy we should look at but i do have concerns on fit with Lauri and Kessler. Its gotta be a great deal if we do it.

You cant just get every underperforming due to lack of touches/involvement player and have them magically do better.

Lauri is doing that partially because he's an incredible worker, but also because we are giving him those touches. You cant just add in another player who operates in similar spaces and guarantee it works. John Collins is on a significant contract, even after the new cap kicks in, that's still + starter money.

Jazz now got to get players that compliment Lauri, not just try to add overpaid/underperformers.

John Collins averages 22/10 not that long ago. You guys are acting like he’s some bum. Trae isn’t as good as many thought he was.

Buying low on a guy owed 25 million per year for the next 3 seasons who has declined every season for the past 4 years has to include us getting a pick back.

I still dont really get the case for John Collins. We arent going to be able to give him that many touches and he isnt complimentary to Lauri.

Maybe if you are getting him for basically free, but even then, ehhhhhhhh. I just cant get over the fact that a guy who should fit perfectly with Trae Young has declined year to year as much as he has. I get there could be other dynamics at play, but still, damn.
The fit isn't seamless with Lauri and Kessler... I do think in small ball arrangements JC and Lauri might be pretty devastating on offense and Collins has some decent defensive chops (not a world beater, but is active making rotations and helping with rim protection... can hold his ground in the post). I'd love to try it before we buy it but that isn't a thing.

I think Trae is only ideal for guys that just want to spot up and guys that want to catch lobs. Collins isn't as good of a lob threat as Capela so now he stands in the corner. I think someone could get a good deal buying on Collins but we may not be able to put him in as many actions as we need to maximize him. I think he'd do better here than Atlanta but another situation might be better. Like Indiana should be in on this.

IF we were at a point in team building where we had no other options and we are faced with this kind of big swing move, sure.

But we arent even sniffing that point of the building phase so I dont see the upside being worth the opportunity cost of other, more likely to be better moves.

As if you have any better of a record. We're all just amateurs, we get things right and wrong pretty much randomly, and @Saint Cy of JFC combines that with mild trollery, so people feel vindicated at his mis-predictions.

Mild trollery? Lol that’s hilarious. Also, Cy dishes it the most so Cy gets it back. This summer was peak guys calling me an idiot for not seeing how Minnesota was going to be a juggernaut so dishing it back is mild compared to what I got.

I'd say his "value" is still slightly positive. If we had a need and offered neutral value then I'd feel fine without a pick. I think the trade I threw out was like KO/Vando/Gay for JC is what I would feel okay with. I will trust the front office on fit and such.

What about those players and just adding the Philadelphia/Brooklyn pick?
