The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Houston just beat Denver. I'm going to go ahead and put them with the teams that are ahead of the Jazz right now.
Probably true, but I wouldn't read too much into this game. Nuggets entire bench combined for 8 points (in 19 shots), 0 FTA, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Nnaji was -18 subbing for Jokic.

I dont think anyone thought they would suck

Well it was the normal hyperbole of the board. Some predicting them to be finals contenders in Rudy's first year, some predicting they'd be bottom of the lottery the entire time Rudy was there. Turns out those of us who predicted within a year or so they would be a tough team to beat and likely high seed in the playoffs were closer to right.

Eh, I was one of the haters who thought that KAT and gobert wouldn't work together and ant was overrated but I still thought worst case scenario was that they were a play in team. I dont think anyone, literally anyone, thought they would totally suck.

There were a couple of the normal contrarians. But yeah not many.

This is the best year for Minnesota to be good since we don’t own their pick. You could see them putting it together last year.

To the people saying the picks won’t amount to anything guess what… the very first one we got turned into Keyonte George.

They are going to be in salary cap hell next year. 170M combined to 6 players already on the books and Conley is a FA.

They are already going to be in the luxury tax and after filling out the roster will be pushing the super tax apron. Keeping Conley and Anderson or signing anyone else for that matter is going to get extremely expensive.

This is their best shot this year and should do whatever they can to maximize it because it’s about to get sweaty going forward.

Schweddy basket-balls

Dont be facetious, you know what we mean. Yes, you can draft 30th and still get a good player, but these arent going to be gold mine picks for as long as Edwards is on that team.

Burks with 16 points on 7 seven shots with 4 assists and zero turnovers in his return to action.

2027 and 2029 is quite some time away. One thing is if Ant is there, but he also has to stay healthy, and they need to keep quality around him. I'm not all that hopeful for that '25 pick, but the next ones are anyone's guess.

Yeah, we are hoping for a random injury. Edwards should be there until at least 2027.

Not being facetious at all. 16th pick is a lot better than the late 20’s everyone promised me.

Dude has hung around and make a great career for himself. We are vindicated in loving him when he was a Jazz for sure. We could use him right now tbh.

I bet if you go look back at that draft he is way outperforming most of his peers. His career longevity is impressive.

Minny will end up trading Kat as soon as this year. Part of how good they will be in the future depends on the return there. I think they can still be play-in game/late lotto bad in some of those years and the recipe is really just:

- The return on KAT isn't great
- Rudy slows down or ages... this is a 2027/29 thing. An injury could happen and cause it sooner, but not gonna wish that on anyone.
- Ant isn't able to carry Jaden, old Rudy, Naz?, and whatever they get for KAT to a top 6 record.
- Ant gets frustrated and wants to go to a different market... could be for a variety of reasons but some serious cost cutting will occur over the next few years.
- Important role players like Kyle Anderson, Mike Conley, aren't replaced with good enough parts.
- Ant could also sustain some injuries.

Like Minny could have a year like Dallas had last year. Overall I'm bullish on Ant and think the picks are not likely going to be lotto, especially in 2025... but they could still be lotto adjacent.

Overall I actually think the Cavs picks have more of a chance of being great. Mobley looks good but he may not have the big leaps most assumed he would. Don won't be there long term... he just won't. Garland is awesome but has a hard time staying on the court and isn't going to carry a team by himself. Allen has hit his ceiling imo.

Naz, Ant, McDaniels

They got Naz on a steal of a contract.

If you are high on Leonard, they got him coming down the pipeline.

They will get something for KAT. Hell they might get addition by subtraction overall on KAT. Even if it's just a Harden-esque return.

Gobert is showing this year he can have a post-prime career and isnt just going to fall off a cliff because he gets less athletic.

Bottom line is we shouldnt be expecting top 10 picks from Minnesota unless multiple bad injuries happen until the last pick. They can still be good to solid picks, but we likely arent changing the franchise with them and we arent convincing other teams they are top tier trades pieces (though they are still quite good as any unprotected pick can be).

I agree to an extent but 2027 and 2029 are so far away that those are extremely valuable trade assets.
