What's new

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

I mean, Cuban just made 3.5 billion and still gets to keep his dream job. IDK how much of a thing it is. Probably just Cuban selling high so he can invest in other rich people things.
Yeah, but the new owners can get rid of him any time they want. I'd bet he doesn't make it two years. He also quit Shark Tank.

He's retaining his shares or some shares so he's not an employee like a normal dude would be. He's likely got a team of lawyers protecting him. He could retain less than majority shares but have super voting rights... I've seen it with some companies where their shares have 10x the voting power so they may control the company without a majority ownership. So the asset may be owned by the new folks and still controlled by Cuban (likely for a number of years... likely some sort of phase out plan).

Hopefully he doesn't have some health issue or something. Maybe he's gonna run for president.

Possibly, but I don't think someone shells out 3.5 billion for something and cedes total control like that. Especially people who can buy something for 3.5 billion. Their lawyers are going to be as good or better than Cuban's. I think they let him finish out the year then start to put their own stamp on things. If Cuban fits that he stays. If not. . .

I mean if you are still going to let Cuban still have total control for a long time, it would have been cheaper just to purchase a luxury suite.

He's not going to be an at will employee... they won't have power just to fire him. They do it now so they get the thing they want buy Cuban can stay in power for 5-10 years. He likely has some restrictions on what he can/can't do. This kind of smells like transition planning for Cuban in that he wants to make sure its easy for his family or him if a sudden change happened because the asset is already sold... but he wants to still do what he loves for a while longer but they have a good buyer lined up now.

Its all guess work but if Cuban really wants to stay in power he won't make it so he's just an employee that can get fired. He would have heavy protections. I can see a group buying the asset and being okay with it (the valuation seems a bit lower than expected) because there are only so many of these franchises and this one is in a good market.

What did the nba expect… I just imagine they are in the house cuddling and the nba investigator stops by and they don’t answer the door and close the blinds.

This is going to go nowhere.
Newport Beach PD is also investigating it. In California (where she lives) the consent age is 18 so it could turn into a criminal case, in which case closing the blinds wont help anymore.

Does that matter if the parents dont want to pursue a criminal case? Can the state do it themselves?

Yeah I think they will need participation as well and likely won't get the level they need. I wonder how wealthy the family is... that is one of the wealthiest areas in the country. I'm going to go ahead and say nothing happens here criminal or nba. Unless Josh pisses her off and gives her a reason to start cooperating.

People get fired from companies they founded all the time. Once you give up that 51%, you are always at risk. Nobody is allowing some sort of "you have to employ me!!!" clause into a contract like that. I have seen plenty if people sell companies that thought they had something like that. It never worked out for them.

As soon as the new owners have no use for Cuban they will sideline him. That day might not be immediately though, and it won't likely be as ugly as it could have been as he is still a minority owner.

Which is why he kept part of his shares. This isn't some local business this is billionaires doing business together. He can give up more than 51% and still maintain a good portion of control with super voting rights on his shares. There is likely a window where those shares no longer have super voting rights and that is when he would be susceptible. If they can just fire him I'd come in day 1 and can him.

There are absolutely tools he will ensure are in place that allow him to not just be discarded.

I think she could just say they didn’t have sex… he could too. How they gonna prove it and how much effort they gonna put into it? I’m guessing the girl and Josh’s lawyers will make this a fruitless and frustrating endeavour.

He’s playing well but his role is shrunk. I have watched a few games and he was invisible (his numbers are better than what I was watching so it’s likely a bit of small sample eye test). I wonder how long he’s cool with it. His salary jumps to $50M next year which is why I wonder if they should make a move sooner than later. They likely wait though unless it becomes a problem… but if it becomes a problem they value drops.

yeah will be interesting to see how he accepts having been supplanted by Ant and whether he likes winning more than what his numbers are. But either way if the Wolves stay this deep into contention they won't dare disrupt it

Regardless the memes exist and it will always follow him.
