The Official "Ask A Mormon" Thread

Evolution happens at random, it is not creating the perfect organism it only goes as nature selects..

So Devolution wouldn't be taking steps back it would be Evolving not at all, or being locked in your current phase!!

Since I don't buy the Darwiniac doctrine I think of evolution as the concept of going from simple to complex. So Devolution is going from complex to simple. But really this is about progressing to certain point (peak) and then entropy (deterioration) taking over. Hill climbing comes to mind.

Kenneth Miller who is a very very famous biologist who happens to be Roman Catholic said it best. Theists who believe in creation believe in a god that uses a cue ball for each pool ball. Theists who believe in evolution believe god hit the cue ball once and caused every ball to go into the holes.

Yes, I didn't mention any about Christ's Second Coming in my plan of salvation post. As I think many Christian groups do, LDS believe the millennium will begin at the Second Coming of Christ. He will come in glory to reign personally on the earth. This will be a 1000 year period of peace and righteousness. The time period occurs more or less congruently with the resurrection... some people will be resurrected at the start of the millennium whereas others will be resurrected later on. The millennium will conclude with the final casting out of Satan, and the final resurrections/judgments. Or at least, that's the typical LDS view of things.

How can there be 1000 years of peace if Satan is still around?

It's funny the things that trip up people about the LDS faith. Some people get all bent over trivial things and there are these huge elephants in the room (literally with dinosaurs). Stuff like the whole 3 levels of salvation and making your own worlds. That stuff is out there and haters focus on small things.

And it always surprises me how interested non-LDS are in the Mormon faith (like people that have no plans to join). I don't understand the attention. But I'm sure LDS doesn't have a monopoly on critical attention.

Just some general observations there not necessarily directed at anyone here.

Satan will be "bound" during the 1000 years of peace, that is why there will be the peace.
At the end he will be let loose to test those that lived through the peace vs the rest of the world that never had the "peace".
Peace in this sense is the lack of Satan trying to make everybody fail in any way he can.

Regarding polygamy... the LDS church still practices this in a manner of speaking. A man can be sealed to several women meaning that in "heaven", he will essentially be "married" to several women for eternity.

That said, if "heaven" exists, no man on this earth knows what it is like. Polygamy make be a perfectly fine form of cohabitation in "heaven".

There is also the death of a spouse and remarriage. How is that going to be worked out?

Back in the mid to late 90s the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) had it out for the LDS faith. They had some of the largest anti mormon libraries in the world, prevented Mormon high schoolers from joining Christian student groups, harrassed Missionaries, sponsored Salt lake City trips to save the heathens and taught straight up idiotic notions about Mormons. Such as all Mormons have horns. I literally had people ask me if I had horns...

It got to the point where a pair of 70s came out to the south. one to Pastor Rodgers and the other the SBC. The one that went to Pastor Rodgers told him that if he did not back off that the Mormon Church would buy his loan and be his landlord and would take appropriate measures. The one that went to the SBC told them that the last thing they wanted was a religious rivalry with the Mormon church.

Suddenly things were a lot better after that. People think that because we are nice we are weak. It amuses me that they think that.

This is a good response. What about dinosaurs? Lots of stuff that will be answered that we don't get now. But none of that stuff is super critical so I don't spend time thinking about it.

I heard Brigham Young was saying that the creation process involved a lot of beings in different stages of creation knowledge (grade level) if you will and Dinosaurs were like a lesson gone wrong or something.

Ya don't even get me started on pre-existence.

She said she will haunt me and when I eventually die there will be reprecussions.

You all worked out something that works for you and I can respect that. As for me I have already told my wife that if something happens to me she can remarry as I want her to be happy. I will see her again and she does not need to put her life on hold until than. Life is to short and precious for that.

This video sums up perfectly what I believe in.

If you don't want to watch video basic jist of it.
-There are people referring to evolution as "mohemeddian theory of evolution ofdescent of man from lower forms" before Darwin
-"One should then take a look at the world of creation. It started out from the minerals and progressed, in an ingenious, gradual manner, to plants and animals... The animal world then widens, its species become numerous, and, in a gradual process of creation, it finally leads to man, who is able to think and reflect. The higher stage of man is reached from the world of monkeys, in which both sagacity and perception are found, but which has not reached the stage of actual reflection and thinking. At this point we come to the first stage of man. This is as far as our (physical) observation extends" - Ibn Khaldun 400 years before Darwin
-Al Jahiz said comments about natural selection 900 years before Darwin
-There are Qur'an verses that support it. "Humans were created in stages", "Adams descendants were chosen over other descendants," there is nothing about Eve and being made from rib etc.

Unfortunately many Muslims don't believe in evolution. I blame people like Harun Yahya and poor education. Also listening too much to Imams.

Basically I believe in the god put all the balls in the pool table into the holes with just one que ball and one hit rather then an individual hit per que ball. This was done from the fine tuning of the universe. Everything in evolution is explainable by science.

Hey! This thread isn't "Ask a Muslim"! Stick with the program.

I was not part of the negotiations.
