The Official "Ask A Mormon" Thread

Converting is step one to getting the Mormon honnies, what really makes you irresistible is being a returned missionary.

Colton, is it true that many young LDS girls will ONLY marry a returned missionary? We can exclude the ones who have a high school BF on a mission.

Of course it's true. I'm most familiar with BYU Mormons. And for those people, going on a mission is a VERY important thing. Actually, skipping your mission is almost a taboo. But then again, BYU Mormons are pretty devoted.

Seems plausible that many might have that view. But I'd say for the typical LDS female (active in the church) I think the more important things would probably the guy's current church activity, whether he has a temple recommend, etc., rather than whether he served a mission some years ago.

My honest belief on this is that it's not just some random notion within the black community that Mormons hate black people but it is being taught aggressively to black people that mormons hate them. That's my take growing up my first 23 years in the Salt Lake Valley and then going into the Navy. I think Mormons and the rest of us in the Salt Lake Valley are a lot less racist than almost anywhere. No joke.

For reference I lived in Zion, Il and worked at the Naval training center in Great lakes for 9 months. I spent two months in Dam Neck, VA and 5 years in San Diego, although about 2.5 of the years spent in San Diego I was at sea, but there was a healthy population of black people on the ship, an aircraft carrier.

Not to mention that there are more Mormons outside Utah but within the US than in Utah and more Mormons outside the US than in the US. Over 1 million in Mexico and approaching 1 million in Brazil and the Phillipines...

People do not realise how large and diverse the LDS religion really is.

Correction: Over 1 million in Brazil already.

Well, it was a guess. I'd be surprised if it's much lower though, judging from the Mormons I know. But maybe it is.
