You also failed to recognize the possibility of a third option. A good balance of bb talk, humor, and sarcasm. The fact you failed to recognize that possibility on your own proves one of two things about yourself;

The main job of the CC is to make sure the city runs on a balanced budget. They do a lot of other things, like field complaints, write ordinances, make decisions on economic development, etc., but the big job is balancing the budget that the Mayor and the city administrator give to them. If the Mayor requests more than what the city has in the coffers, then the council either cuts certain things or imposes a tax increase in the form of raised property taxes -- or a mixture of both. This is the super-quick version, but that's it in a nutshell. What will I do differently? Well...
"I voted for this tax increase. I'm going to own it, and I would do it again. If people don't like it, well, uh, then they can vote us out in November." - Brad Christopherson, defending his decision to vote in favor of a 29% tax increase which included gas reimbursements for the top five paid employees in the city (One being his friend, the mayor), $10,000.00 for a parade float (ugh), tens of thousands of dollars in extra funding for T-Ville Dayzz, and a host of other ridiculous "wants".
My opponent wasn't voted in by the people, but was "appointed" by the city council. It was a total backdoor job, and wouldn't you know it, he has mirrored every vote that his cronies have put up. Before his appointment, he hadn't put in a single shred of effort to make the city a better place, or to bother being involved in any way, shape, or form. I am different because I've been involved, stayed involved, and will continue to be involved no matter the outcome. My opponent listens to what his friends on the council tell him, and votes how they tell him to. It's rubbish. I research everything to a disgustingly fine tip before making decisions, making sure I have all four sides of every argument before opening my mouth. (not always the case, as I've been known to stand before the Council/Mayor and give them my two cents on things, but I'm a citizen and I'm allowed to be passionate sometimes... right?)
I'm sure that's more than you really cared to know, but since you asked, there you go. Did I miss anything?
