What's new

The Official 'Jazz don't get none free agent' thread.

Them adding it right now was the argument.

This was never even the argument.
The argument was what talent and what position, imo.
I would have loved to give a huge contact to jimmy butler or kahwi leonard. I would love to add a nice backup center.
I would love to add a talented quality point guard.

I felt our wings are our deepest position and that carroll, green, etc are not big enough upgrades to justify their huge contracts. They wouldn't move the needle of this team enough

They're adding a slashing guard who can score and get to the line to the young team that really came on in the second half. No complaints from me.

Those scenarios could be anything and its been about 36 hours. A little early to say he struck out. If he was even swinging in the first place. This argument is as evidence based as Dalas.

It would be a good time to add. It is also a good time to see how this team fares with all the current pieces at full health and steam...

Dal has no evidence. He's using lack of evidence as evidence. Poor reasoning, every time.

I can tell by the names of the players signed elsewhere that we missed on great opportunities. What's so hard to understand about that?

Depends on whose argument you are talking aobut.

As for bigs I think we all assume that Pleiss is coming over, correct?

Ya I was explaining my argument as a "pro cake baker"

Every year there are people who complain about the front office.
Then there are those who complain about those that complain.
Then there are the elite ones who complain about those who complain about those who complain.
And then there are the super elite (like me) who complain that you explain how others complain about those who complain about those who complain. Please stop it!

I was OK with singing a guy to compliment what we have. To inspire competition.

I am also more than OK with letting this team mature and grow.

Cappy is right ya'll. Jazz are going to make some noise this year and people will be shocked. I think Exum, Gobert and Hood all have big jumps and this team wins 53 games.
How in the hell did Colton not come down on this post like a ton of dictionaries?

This team is exciting. You know what would be even more exciting? This team plus a young FA who can compete for minutes who is also very tradable in the future for assets because the cap is going to rise and we don't let our cap space go for nothing.

Free agency is never easy, and Utah has always been at a disadvantage. All things being equal, LA is the top destination among NBA players, and yet they've struck out 2 years in a row because nobody wants anything to do with them while Kobe is still there. I guess if some people want to believe that guys are lining up to play in Utah but our FO just isn't trying, there will be no changing their mind. Personally, I believe Utah is looking at every possibility to improve the team, and I won't fault them for not being able to force guys to play here. Utah's best opportunities to add a significant player have always been through trade, and there are advantages to maintaining financial flexibility leading up to the trade deadline. Sure, we'd all like to see some kind of big signing, but I don't see the point of throwing a screaming hissy fit over free agency when it always has been a disadvantage for a team in Utah, and we still have the opportunity to improve through trade.

I agree. People think it's so damn easy. If you want Danny Green you just go offer him some money and he'll come to Utah. If he doesn't come then the FO sucks. I blame it on video games.

Jae Crowder for $7 million per year seems to be about the closest to a value deal that I'd have been interested in pursuing. And that's still paying a lot for a guy that you're expecting to be a bench defensive specialist. I'd save big money ONLY for a 6th man scorer off the bench. Essentially having a 6th starter salary-wise. Every other spot should be value of possible.

Too many crappy bench contracts will kill you when you need to keep your starters paid and happy.

That's a Damn fine post right there.
Ellis usually in top form

Everyone welcome our team that might 'slightly' change from now till October! Here's to a great season bois ;)
And when the Jazz win 50+ are you going to eat crow while most of the rest of us are enjoying the yummy cake that DL and QS are baking right now?

Jerebko was also on my list. I never thought we could convince one of the big FAs to come.

Hasn't Jerebko had injury issues? Not sure I want to pay big money into a guy who may or may not be available.

If I were DL, I'd make a push for Tobias Harris - even if it came down to a max contract. Not that I like a max for him, but the market has shifted and adjustments have to be made. I think that he'd be a really strong fit for this roster.

Short of that, I push to sign both Tomic (which I'm sure some people hate) and Pleiss and then start getting ready for the season. Maybe try to find an advantageous deal at the trade deadline, or get into the running for a star player forcing his way out of town. Something will turn up.
