The Official Lets Give Corbin Till Midway through Next Year before we Hate on him thread

Oh, and Al Jefferson is most definitely a top 60 player in the NBA. We may be frustrated by his defense, but we can't forget that his offensive skills are elite. To say that he's not top 60 is showing a definite bias.

...you've got to be kidding, right? If Jefferson is a top 60 player in todays NBA....then there must be 60 players in the league....and he's number 60!

Why give him more time when we already know he's not the right guy going forward? This notion of giving a unproven guy more time just doesn't happen in today's NBA. When you go backward, or show minimal improvement you are probably fired. Can him gracefully after the season, and begin the search for our guy.

.....gracefully or not....he's got to go!

Where is Corbin good at as a head coach?

Motivating players? No.

A leader? Respected? No.

Charismatic? No.

Good reaction to the game flow / right plays / good timouts ? No.

Basketball knowledge? Basketball IQ? No.

Good rotations / substitution patterns? No.

Teacher / Player developement / Defense? No.

Calls the right play to finish games? No.

Gets the maximum out of his team/players? No.

Any significant adjustments if not lead by injuries? No.

Is he at least fair in how he distributes playing time? No.

So what can Corbin do? Simply nothing. He does not have an impact on this team and could be replaced by anyone.

Potential: Assistant coach.

Summary: Underachiever. Had enough talented players to make the top 4-6 seed in the West or at least the 8th seed. With an average coach, the Jazz would have 5 more wins this season. With a good coach, around 10 more wins. Corbin is the main reason why the Jazz might not make the Playoffs this year. The Jazz lacked energy, identity and trust throughout the whole season. Add a terrible road performance, too, in order to describe this team's lack of consistent motor and leadership.

2.5 years with Tyrone Corbin have been frustrating and arguably was the worst period of time being a Jazz fan. It's not just his fault, it's the management that gave him this job. He never will be more than an asisstant coach in the NBA.

Grade: D / E

How are you grading him in all these categories? What is the logic behind your grading? It seems like you just emotionally don't like him.

I don't think the results of this team are why people are angry or frustrated with Corbin. At least for me, that's how I feel. Corbin's win-loss record this year doesn't really matter that much to me.

The main things that are frustrating me are:

1) Our style of play. It's gotten better as of late, which is nice to see, but it's still not that great. Our defensive rotations and schemes are garbage, and we never seem to have that many guys cutting through the lane for open layups. We have plenty of players who are capable of doing so in Hayward, Burks, Williams and Carroll...we just aren't doing it.

2) Corbin's seemingly refusal to play the young guys. I do like how he's making them earn their play, but dammit, these guys need to be able to play if we want to see them develop.

I can't see Al being in the top 60. His defense is atrocious.

He is going to be here next season anyway so might as well give him a chance to see what he does without an Al, Sap, Mo line up to fall back on every game.

Part of me wants to give him more time. He's a likeable enough guy.

But the lack of PT for the Core 4 together this season is just inexcusable. At the very least they should have got the majority of the bench minutes together. They are the future of the Jazz but with Ty it really doesn't feel that way, at least from his actions.

How is a coach that's clearly become LESS effective at a time that he should by all accounts be MORE effective getting the benefit of a doubt here? No, the problems aren't ALL his fault, he's competent if he has time and doesn't have to hurt anyone's feelings, but a franchise like the Jazz need a future hall of famer, not Eddie Jordan.

The Jazz would be fools if they didn't at least try.

Agreed.

I never said that Paul would come here.... but at the same time, the Jazz have more to offer him than any other team in the league this offseason.

Maybe he'll see the writing on the wall, as the Jazz are poised to rebuild OKC style.
We need a star, or we will never be contending in my opinion.

Maybe we are slightly too critical of Corbin. Not saying for sure, but maybe he deserves a little more credit. Just look at what he has to work with.
Mo-No one really wants him as a starter
Foye-Only can shoot. not much else to offer night in night out. Good dude though
Hayward-Stud, not a number on option or even a #2 option on a contending team
Millsap-Undersized. Can't beat anybody one on one.
Jefferson -biggest defensive liability for a starter the game has ever seen. Al Jefferson gives up more layups than beatown gives out neg reps. good guy though
Favors-Great on the defensvie end and should play more, but still a project offensively.
Kanter-Only started to come into hos own a month or so ago
Watson-haha
Tinsley-He can pass, but in the words of Austin Powers "That's... about... it.
Marvin-Haha okay. He play good defense and rebounds but there is a reason the Hawks traded him. Let's be honest
Burks-Erratic. Still needs to get better. Plays defense well and rebounds at the PG spot

We have no player in the top 60 in the NBA guys. No player in the top 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe Corbin is learning how to coach and is doing well thus far.
Also, Our PG play has been turrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PG play=bottom 5 in the league
Also, Not many coaches are put in the difficult situation he has been put into. He has been commisioned by KOC and Lindsey to win while rebuilding. If he were to bench AL or Millsap or cut their minutes a lot and give those minutes to Kanter and Favors , i would think it would repel players from signing with us even more and we would have no chance at the playoffs cause i think AL and SAp would be disengaged.
How many games would Scotty Brooks win with this group?
Doc Rivers?
Phil Jackson?
Larry Brown?
I think we should give Corbin till midway through next season before we call for his Job. Hevean knows the FO will.
no
corbin needs to go NOW.
2 wasted seasons.
and you want a 3rd wasted season

again

NO

He's already had more than enough of a chance to prove his worth, and he's hasn't proved worthy. Time to stop making excuses for him and let go.

I don't see what's so funny about going for CP3. It's ambitious, but not entirely impossible. And yes, I realize that some here think nobody on earth would ever play in Utah. But we should try anyway.

Wow, I never thought SiroMar would agree with me here lol.
I mean why wouldn't the Jazz throw an offer out to the biggest free agent they could this summer?
They could stand to make TONS of money off of the move if they could pull it off.

This.
.
We have heard these same excuses for 2 years now. He's just needs time. He's been given a raw deal. The players are not good enough (though they are). He just needs experience.
.
Too many bad decisions. Too many stupid rotations. Too much lack of balls. And too many glaring problems with his ability as a coach. He is not an NBA caliber coach. And if we have any chance of getting our young guys to become great or very good players they need to be put with a coach that knows what the hell he's doing.
.
2 more year of Corbin and we'll be ****ed for a long time. By then our young players will be past the time when they are likely to improve much more. They will be tired of being jerked around with ****ty rotations. They will have had enough of the situation.
.
If you think the fans are being hard on him now wait until he is doing the same BS next year. I can't wait to see Landry or some other scrub playing over Kanter and Favors.

You pretty much sum up how I feel about Corbin. It was obvious to me last year that it didn't matter how well the young players performed, they weren't going to influence Corbin's distribution of minutes. That whole "they've got to earn it" schtick is pure bullskat.

Oh I'm almost complete sure Corbin's rotations are set long before tipoff. So much so that he'll call a TO if the players have been unable to get in the game when he desires them in the game according to said rotation schedule.
