Mathematically, the Jazz still have a shot at the 9th pick in the draft which would give them 22 ping-pong balls total. (for a 2.2% chance at the #1 pick)

Why do you hate Ty's legacy so much?

Just kidding. I'm with you. Start Fes and up his trade value. Teach Hoywurd and Favors how to play. Other than that, you just have to play Price and Raja more to have a true shot.

I love this thread. We should get Kenwood on this, or was it NBAnerd - whoever, he's the jazzfanz numbers guy. I'm wondering the percentages of getting lucky and moving up in the draft. y'know like, what are the chances #12 moves up and what are the chances #6 / #5 moves up.

Isn't there some crazy rule where you can't move up more than a couple slots but all 14 teams have a chance to move into the top 3 ?

Number 12 gets:

1- 0.7%
2- 0.8%
3- 1.0%
12- 93.5%
13- 3.9%
14- 0.0% (rounded down from 0.01-0.04%)

Number 5 gets:

1- 8.8%
2- 9.7%
3- 10.7%
5- 25.1%
6- 36.0%
7- 8.4%
8- 0.4%

Number 6 gets:

1- 6.3%
2- 7.1%
3- 8.1%
6- 43.9%
7- 30.5%
8- 4.0%
9- 0.1%

Number 7 gets:

1- 4.3%
2- 4.9%
3- 5.8%
7- 59.9%
8- 23.2%
9- 1.8%
10- 0.0% (rounded down from 0.01-0.04%)

Also, I'd say it's pretty close to a lock that we are drafting #6 and #12, barring any trades.

Edit: Err, that we will have the #6 and #12 slot. Hopefully that 6 slot moves us up to 1-3...

Here are some odds I found from last year. The NJ pick (5 or 6 seed going into the lottery) had some success last year! The 5th and 6th worst records got the 1st and 2nd picks!

1. New Jersey Nets - 25.0%
2. Minnesota Timberwolves - 19.9%
3. Sacramento Kings - 15.6%
4. Golden State Warriors - 11.9%
5. Washington Wizards - 7.6%
6. Philadelphia 76ers - 7.5%
7. Detroit Pistons - 4.3%
8. Los Angeles Clippers - 2.8%
9. Utah Jazz (from NY Knicks) - 1.7%
10. Indiana Pacers - 1.1%
11. New Orleans Hornets - 0.8%
12. Memphis Grizzlies - 0.7%
13. Toronto Raptors - 0.6%
14. Houston Rockets 0.5%

We should write a community letter to Stern praising his dictatorship, confirming ourselves as loyalists, offerin' our services and support so maybe he'll help us out a little bit on this one

We are most likely getting the number 6 and 12 slots, as has been mentioned. The Nets pick, if at number 6, would give us a 21.5% chance at a top 3 pick, while our 12 slot would give us a 2.5% chance at a top 3 pick. So we would have a 24% chance overall at a top 3 pick. If the Nets record moves to 5th worst, however, we would have a 31.2& chance at a top 3 pick. We are due for some luck, so hopefully things work out in our favor.

Here in Utah, we are eager to get our team name on as many balls as possible. We have no memory from April 15-October 31.
