I hope Europe will see this and step up in a big way.
You, on the other hand, are setting yourself up for disappointment.

So far, the United States has spent more than twice the amount on military aid to Ukraine than all other nations on Earth combined. Genius Zelensky just went to the White House to insult the President and all of America by saying we did nothing for them, that Ukraine has been alone.

If Zelensky insults Ukraine out of any support from the United States, Europe will not be able to replace the level of support for Ukraine the United States has been providing.

I watched it. I don’t need to hear your bird brain version of what happened today.

As much as I hate to not hold putin accountable for his horrible actions and let him off the hook, if the choices are:
A. Ukraine takes this garbage deal and the war stops
or
B. Europe stands strong with Ukraine and sends weapons and troops to push Putin out of ukraine and defeat russia, which knowing putin he would never give up and accept defeat, which leads russia to launch a nuke and then world war 3 breaks out.....

I choose option A knowing that its total BS and probably what trump and putin planned to have happen long ago.

Problem with option A is that there is nothing in place to keep putin from just starting another war in a year or two or whatever and option A would probably give putin confidence to invade again or even invade a different country if they feel like it after seeing that they could get away with it this time.

I mean what should happen is Putin just get russia out of ukraine. Boom, war over. Sanctions get lifted. Everybody happy.

“It’s no secret that the Harvard-Harris Poll is inaccurate and misleading. A number of experts from both sides of the aisle — including statistician Nate R. Silver, Democratic pollster Geoff D. Garin ’75, Republican pollster Chris Wilson, liberal journalist Josh M.J. Marshall, and conservative law professor Ilya Somin — have criticized the survey. FiveThirtyEight, a public opinion blog that aggregates political polls, recently ranked Harris Insights & Analytics in the bottom 50 percent of American pollsters”

I get that trump wants zelensky to say thanks. Which he did today and have seen him do in multiple past interviews, but how about trump try saying something like "I'm sorry that Putin and Russia attacked you. You didn't deserve that and they shouldn't have done that. But here we are. Let's try to make a deal"

Trump simply refuses to say a bad word about Putin or Russia. He will call zelensky a dictator but won't call Putin a dictator. Instead he says he trusts Putin and Putin was picked on when he was outed for helping trump get elected and Putin was genius for invading Ukraine..... Nothing but compliments for Putin.
He will say Ukraine started the war but won't put any blame on Russia who actually did start the war.

It's insulting to Zelensky and then trump expects zelensky to grovel at trumps feet after trump insults him and praises his tormenter over and ever again.

Trump and Vance would have our nation become a mafia state. Not unlike Russia.

At least the Oval Office meeting held by President Donald Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was held in front of the cameras. False friendliness in public by Trump and Vance, followed by behind-the-scenes treachery, would have been much more dangerous to the Ukrainian cause.

Instead, Trump and Vance have revealed to Americans and to America’s allies their alignment with Russia, and their animosity toward Ukraine in general and its president in particular. The truth is ugly, but it’s necessary to face it.

Today’s meeting gave the lie to any claim that this administration’s policy is driven by any strategic effort to advance the interests of the United States, however misguided. Trump and Vance displayed in the Oval Office a highly personal hatred. There was no effort here to make a case for American interests. Vance complained that Zelensky had traveled to Pennsylvania to thank U.S. ammunition workers, because, Vance charged, the appearance amounted to campaigning for the Democratic presidential ticket. “Let me tell you, Putin went through a hell of a lot with me,” Trump angrily explained. “He went through a phony witch hunt where they used him and Russia, Russia, Russia.”

Both the president and vice president showed the U.S.-led alliance system something it needed urgently to know: The national-security system of the West is led by two men who cannot be trusted to defend America’s allies—and who deeply sympathize with the world’s most aggressive dictator.

Through the Cold War period, Americans were haunted by the fear that a person with clandestine loyalties to a hostile foreign power might somehow rise to high office. In the late 1940s, the Alger Hiss case convulsed the country. Hiss’s accusers charged—and it later proved true—that Hiss had betrayed U.S. secrets to Soviet spymasters in the 1930s, when Hiss served as a junior official in the Department of Agriculture. The secrets were not very important; they included designs for a new fire extinguisher for U.S. naval ships. But Hiss himself was a rising star. The possibility that a person with such secrets in his past might someday go on to head the Department of State or Central Intelligence Agency once tormented Americans.

But what if the loyalties were not clandestine, not secret? What if a leader just plain blurted out on national television that he despises our allies, rejects treaties, and regards a foreign adversary as a personal friend? What if he did it again and again? Human beings get used to anything. But this?

It’s not hard to imagine a president of Estonia or Moldova in that Oval Office chair, being berated by Trump and Vance. Or a president of Taiwan. Or, for that matter, the leaders of core U.S. partners such as Germany and Japan, which entrusted their nations’ security to the faith and patriotism of past American leaders, only to be confronted by the faithless men who hold the highest offices today.

We’re witnessing the self-sabotage of the United States. “America First” always meant America alone, a predatory America whose role in the world is no longer based on democratic belief. America voted at the United Nations earlier this week against Ukraine, siding with Russia and China against almost all of its fellow democracies. Is this who Americans want to be? For this is what America is being turned into.

WHAAAAA?!??!??! Sanity from a leftie? What is this madness? Yes, Fish! Exactly! ...or almost exactly. The last part is a bit off as that is what the mining interests are about. The mining interests are Americans in Ukraine. If Russia attacks those Americans doing the mining in Ukraine then s**t will go down. Putin is so worried about the idea of American mining interests in Ukraine that he offered to send America all the stuff they could get from Ukraine if only they don't put Americans in Ukraine.

I wonder why trump doesn't offer Putin a similar deal.
Tell Putin that America won't provide any more money or weapons to Ukraine and will lift sanctions if Russia just gets out of Ukraine and ends the invasion?

And if Russia is afraid of America like some people seem to think (Russia would not invade if America had interests in Ukraine minerals) then make an official alliance with Ukraine and tell russia to take the deal or we will send our military in to assist Ukraine.

Oh I know why. trump is Putin's puppet.

David Frum is gonna David Frum. Ukraine is not an ally. Not only has the US Senate never confirmed an alliance, but I don't think the US State Department has ever even initiated one. Ukraine is a charity case that we took on to hurt Russia. Now the dictator of Ukraine is acting like we owe him something while being incredibly insulting. Eff that guy.

Moscow celebrates the weakening of America…..
How do you get the idea that we need Zelensky's support for America to be not weak? If Zelensky wants to come to America to blow up any relationship, I think that is moronic for Zelensky but I don't think we lose anything. Zelensky being a horrible negotiator does nothing at all to weaken America.

If Russia wants to celebrate Ukraine making a colossal blunder, let them celebrate. That doesn't mean we are Russia's friend either. They can have each other.
