What's new

The official: Thank you Favors thread.

I honestly just wish that good situation had been in the Eastern Conference, like maybe Atlanta...

From past experience, Favors is not a player I want my team to face in the playoffs.

Favors in the west means we play him 4 times. But it also means the Lakers, blazers, okc, mavs, rockets, nuggets and all the pinchi-chinchees play them a combined 56ish games. Lemons? Or lemonade. ;)

Great genuine friendly dude... I’ll always cheer for him. Straight class homie!

I saw a poll on he facebook jazz page asking if the jazz should retire favors jersey. Yes is leading the poll by a lot.

I always thought that you should only retire jerseys of hall of fame type players. Or at least players that make a few all star games. Or at least players that play more than 23 minutes per game and finish the majority of games for you.

Maybe im wrong though and the only requirement for retiring a jersey is that they were on the team a long time. Jarron collins was a jazzman for 8 years. When do we retire his hersey?

I agree. Retiring numbers should be reserved for only the best of the best on the court. Derrick is a great guy, a class act, a hard worker, and a good player. Fans will remember everything he did here. But retire his number? It's a no for me, no disrespect. But maybe I just have a really high bar for that.

Then again, Jeff Hornacek had his number retired. Great player and helped us get to the finals, but also not the best of the best. You could argue Derrick has meant as much for the Jazz as Jeff, even though Derrick didn’t have the opportunity to play with Stockton and Malone.

Man, I love me some Favors, would love if he returned someday.

Also probably not a jersey retiring type of guy. AK is the only guy I'd consider as of now that isn't retired for us already.

Agree SCS, Derrick had the longevity and was the ultimate professional, but his stats just weren't enough to warrant retiring his jersey. If you retire his, then I think you'd have to retire Memo's. Only one that should be awaiting retirement right now is AK47.

Favors for the MLE next summer. Who says no?

I'm sitting front row at the Exums jersey retirement.

AK but not Faves? Please gtfo with this ****. We’re not retiring WBNA players’ numbers here.

Ew.

Raise a WoW Horde banner for AK instead. Or a Night Elf banner...he seems like a night elf player.

With regard to Favors, his number is already in the rafters:

AK averaged slightly more PPG than Favors and played one more season with Utah than did Derrick. He was also an elite defender and shot blocker. Only one other player in NBA recorded history had more 5x5's (Hakeem). I didn't like the last couple of chapters in Utah, but for about five seasons, he was arguably a top-10 player in the NBA.

AK didn’t have Jazz DNA. If he did, then I’d agree, retire his number. But if he did, we’d also have a 2007 NBA championship banner hanging in the rafters.

Any team that starts Ronnie Brewer isn't going to win a championship. That team had as many flaws as last year's Jazz team, actually more. They had three players who couldn't shoot from outside: Boozer, Brewer and AK. Lakers were a better team, period. And they knew how to defend the Jazz...just guard Okur and Williams outside, let the other 3 shoot.
