What's new

The Official "The Tank was Worth It" Thread

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the Jazz realized that we were going to get Exum. Bet Lindsey was doing cartwheels.

In a tough WC, I see us being the Phoenix Suns. Jazz will compete hard, but just aren't good enough to reach 48-50 wins.

I agree but you can't skip steps.

Step 1. Get a young and upcoming GM - Hired Lindsay - Done.
2. Let all our average/good vets expiring contracts go or clean house- Done.
3. Acquire assets and get our financial house in order - Done. TBC
4. Play the young guys (sort of) and Evaluate the coach and hire a new one. - Done.
5. Build a staff with a vision for creating an environment to win a championship based on development and analytical stats- Done.
6. Draft- get a difference maker and potential star (Potential with Exum). Find a gem/contributor at 23. Done.
7. Now it is time to implement your plan in summer league and start developing the guys that will be a major part of our franchise for the next 5-10 years or be assets to use in getting FAs that will help the Jazz achieve this goal.
8. Next up: Decision about retaining Hayward......or going after another FA.
9. Start camp and build chemistry among the players and a culture of sharing the ball and playing defense.
10. Improve to the middle of the pack via for a playoff spot
11. Making the playoffs.
12. Being a contender.
13. Making WCF or Finals.
14. Win a championship!!!
15. Win multiple championships..forcing ESPN to actually talk about, show highlights and interview the Utah Jazz players instead of the Lakers, Bulls, Heat or Knicks.. Ok.. maybe that is asking too much.

There is no time table on when steps 10 through 15 happen or that they actually ever happen but that should be the organization's mindset which I finally believe it is now. I am excited about the future of the team and hope that all Jazz fans are patience enough to realize that you can't skip steps. Patience is needed.

The tank was a good move. Remember the way we tanked was by eviscerating our bench. Our young guys played pretty well. It was the RJ, JLIII, Garrett, Marvin battalion that drove the tank.

Also, taking GSW's cast-offs got us Rodney Hood. I think he's going to be a good pro.

A winning season puts Snyder squarely in the conversation for COY.

I'm psyched on Dante but I don't expect him to be a ton of help next season. Our improvement will have to come via removing Ty and improved play from TB, Burks, Trey, Kanter and Fave.

We Needed two things from the Tank..

1.Shot at drafting a franchise player.. Check
2.Getting rid of Ty.. Check

Yes we have had a successful tank!!!!

Exum is already the most marketable player in Jazz history, and if he lives up to his potential he will be an absolute game changer. The losing last year sucked, but I fully supported it. In fact, I was upset with many of our wins. Somehow the Jazz ended up in exactly the position they needed to be, though. That coin flip with Boston turned out to be ginormous.

Remember the grief some of you gave me about Exum's leaping ability...check out the video at 3:34 and then give me rep suckers. I told you he could fly!

The most marketable player in jazz history? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Malone and Stockton got car dealerships.

I agree though Exum is a really exciting prospect. Let's just not freak out when he's not Kobe right away, k?
I must have forgotten about all of Stockton and Malone's national advertisements before they were even drafted.

simply sucking as a team does not = tank however.
Trading for Beidrins and signing Lucas does, though. There are obvious reasons that the team sucked, and some of them were on purpose.

Hey Highland Homie, just so you know, I did not say that Exum is a guaranteed superstar or anything. I said that the tank resulted in allowing us to grab a guy with extremely high potential, and therefore it worked. I realize that there is still a long way to go, but we can't take the next step without taking this one first you putz.

Pretty lame of you to neg me for this.
