Austin had some other limitations but yes… RFA will do some things. I think there will be some desperate teams with space that will go hunting for a guy like IQ.RFA is hard to predict. Sometimes it inflates a guy’s value, sometimes it’s the other direction like what happened with Reeves. If Quickley gets a 4/160 offer, it could be because some other team is trying to F with us….but imo, it would more likely be the result of Quickley producing like he did last season as a starter.
Hopefully you could arrange this beforehand. Ideally this would have been done before the season to lock it in, but a 5/$125 deal for Quickley would actually be a steal imo. If you make it flat, that’s only 17% of the cap to begin with and based on projections that would drop to 14-15% by the end of it.
I think Murray has a larger reputation and therefore would automatically have a higher price. The certainty in his deal also counts for a lot. He will just cost a lot more than Quickley imo, and all things contract related equal I prefer Quickley as a player.
I think you could get in front of it and offer like 5/150 and hopefully he doesn’t go shopping for a better market or higher offer. I think the new cba allows convos with your own FAs early.
I agree Murray likely costs more. He’s under contract and also has been traded recently so has a “comp” kind of.
Either guy may cost us our pick this year on top of the acquisition cost. Price that in however you want. There is a chance we’d stay below the protections I suppose but it will be close.
In reading an article Knicks wanted IQ at 18M he wanted closer to 25… a very reasonable number. The fact they balked tells me they think they will move him or view him as a bench player… or they have a cap budget they don’t want to exceed. It’s weird not to find common ground if they plan on keeping him long term.
