There's been some talk of still having a lottery pick next year, which I think brings up the pertinent question of what the conditions are on that pick from the Jefferson trade. This year it was obviously protected, but what about next year and onward, if any?

2012 first round draft pick to Minnesota
Utah's own 2012 first round pick to Minnesota (top 14 protected in the 2012 draft and top 12 protected in the 2013 draft). If Utah has not conveyed a first round pick to Minnesota by 2014 and also if Utah's own 2014 first round is not within the top 9 picks, then Minnesota will have the option to swap their own 2014 first round pick with Utah's own 2014 first round pick. If Minnesota does not receive a first round pick by the 2013 draft and also does not swap 2014 first round picks with Utah, then Minnesota will receive Utah's own 2014 second round pick. Pretty important to put lottery-protection on your picks. You just never know what's going to happen. I expect (HOPE!) the pick gets conveyed to Minnesota in 2013. I think it's unrealistic to expect Favors and Hayward to turn into studs by next season. And I don't see the Jazz getting a superstar at #6. But you never know. KOC could also swing a deal for a veteran SF. Get the right player. make a solid pick at #6, and the Jazz could have a pretty good starting 5, with some decent bench players.

With next year shaping up to be a strong draft, very glad KOC lottery protected it.

Not fully lottery protected.

And it's standard practice now to protect picks.

Worst case scenario is if the Jazz finish out of the playoffs in the 13th or 14th position.

Not fully lottery protected.
Actually it is fully lottery protected in 2012, which is the year Jazz4ever was talking about. Only in 2013 and 2014 does it slide to partial lottery protection.

I have a feeling that the Johnny Flynn rumor for bell would include removing the restrictions on the pick. That isvwhat I would ask for.
They might ask, but the Jazz shouldn't remove all the protection IMO. Reduce protection maybe, but keep it somewhat protected just in case the wheels completely fall off next year.
