the real terroist the: TSA

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Ben Franklin

Your right to move about the country isn't being impeded.

Please explain what essential liberty is being forfeited. Convenience?

I think Jason Chaffeztites are thinking that the freedom of privacy... And of not being groped are being forfeited.

You have freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean that a private newspaper is required to print whatever you want to say. Just as you are free to move about the country, but an airline doesn't have to allow you to board their plane if you do not comply with their security procedures. What are people not understanding about that?

I think some people are against it on the basis of personal freedom. Meaning, as a US citizen, I have the right to move freely within my country as long as I can demonstrate proof of citizenship and have demonstrated no reasonable cause to be detained. Right?

I mean, what did your boy Franklin say: They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

What else are you willing to give up Dave? At what point do you, personally, say they've gone too far?

You can still move freely about your country. You can drive; otherwise, getting fondled and x-rayed is what you get. Getting on an airplane to travel is not a right.

The politicizing of the pat-downs and body scanners is awful. The same people demonizing the drastic steps being taken are the same who were demanding answers over how the 19 hijackers were able to do what they did. I have no problem walking through a scanner, or getting a pat-down, as long as everyone is getting the same treatment. Then again, I also think that they should have a curtained off area that if someone wants to avoid the x-rays and pat-downs, they can walk strip down and walk through a security checkpoint buck *** naked.

Agreed, especially on the buck *** naked part.

The problem is that people's level of comfort are not equal. *I* am ok with someone running their hand up my leg and rub my balls, but I am *not* ready to see the same done to my wife or a kid. So tomorrow some jackass shapes a charge of plastic explosive in the form of a *****, stuffs it in his *** and then tries to blow up a plane. Will you be ok with the full body cavity searches that imminently will follow? Today, I am flying for Thanksgiving and will have to go through the scanners and/or patdowns. I don't like it one bit but I will do it because I have no other choice. I can't get the train to Hawaii.

Regarding the politicizing of the problem - what I really hate is the republican's reaction. When their boy was implementing measures to be able to wiretap each American's communications without a warrant and other anti-terror measures they were jumping up and down yelling "if we don't do it, terrorists will win". Now because the other guy's doing it, they are all about "rights and privacy". What a hypocrites.

YB is up for anything as long as its in the name of security.

Should I expect to be able to get a prostate exam, and still maintain these freedoms?

#1 Chaffetzities are angry in general at what they view as an over-intruding federal government that continues to get even larger and more power hungry. They feel that these scanners and pat downs do little to stop an actual terrorist attack and are mere power grabs for perverts.

#2 Scanner lobbyists "donated" millions to politicians. This fact is being used by AM radio and foxnews to make it sound like no other lobbyist group exists in DC. Especially those who donated 1/2 a billion to defeat health care reform... Of course, we'll omit that little fact from our brains...

In other words, it makes it sound like the scanner people have bought off DC.

#3 There's a real concern by some people that the scanners won't pick up on crap in people's underwear. Or that these scanners aren't used for international flights coming TO the USA. I think the nationalist Chaffetzites feel that Americans are being made to give up freedoms and conveniences while potential terrorists overseas aren't being scanned. Tea Party people hate being at the bottom of the double standard. They have no problem when they're on top looking down.

#4 Fear. When will this stop? Will TSA in the future be able to run credit checks, draw blood, and have access to your genealogy all in the name of "security?"

#5 Also, as Dodo pointed out (which might be the main and only reason Repubs are fighting this) is that it's the Demos in charge now. Had Palin won the election, and Repubs controlled Congress, I doubt they'd be making a stink for the exact same laws/procedures from TSA. But because they can use this issue to make the Demos look bad, irritate the Demos, and feed off the fear this generates of an overly aggressive Fed Gov, they'll milk this issue for all it's worth.

#6 Finally, the main dude making this stink is from our Utah boy Jason Chaffetz. At SL International, he made a big scene about it. He asked the security officer if "HE KNEW WHO HE WAS." The officer didn't back down.

Because this officer treated our politician like, heaven forbid, a normal person (which, lets be honest, politicians hate to be treated like normal people) he's carried a grudge ever since.

Chaffetz is Mormon, a Republican, worships Reagan, and has a big mouth. Hence, he's very popular here in Utah. Which means, if he's pissed at TSA, many Utahns will drop whatever they're doing and agree with him. His power is contested only by Max Hall or Thomas Monson.

There is no right answer and that's the real problem. If we go back to 9/10/01 security measures, that's too lax, but if we go to 11/24/10 security measures, that's too rigid. The Bad Guys are going to get around whatever is out there and that action is going to cause another drastic reaction. This is the world we live in and unfortunately it's the price we pay to travel.

Answer the question Greg. Are you fine with a rectal examination if it's in the name of security?
