The reason we should go big with #3

The reason we shouldn't go big: We already have 3 "bigs" that are borderline all-stars, or will be.

I don't think that's a good enough reason, IMO. We need to take BPA, and I believe this is Kanter (unless Williams is available). I'm not convinced Al is a player we should build around. We will evaluate him this year, and depending on how he fits in, we should decide whether he is someone who can be a building block or whether we should try to move him. Even if we decide we want him part of our future, we can still look to move Milsap or Kanter.

then next year do whatever we can to get a star wing in the draft (Barnes)

You're smokin crack if you think we're getting Barnes with our pick next year.

I think our front line is more far more solid than the wings. I'd love to have AK back until our #12 can mature.

I'm smoking crack yet you're the one wanting AK back. If not Barnes, then Rivers. If not Rivers, Gilchrest. Point is, next year's draft will be far more likely to get us a solid wing. We need to take BPA this year, and IMO that's not one of the Pg's at number 3. We have an opportunity to build possibly the best frontcourt in the NBA. Why not go for it?

The question is why we should or shouldn't go big at 3, not whether or not we should pick Kanter. BPA is a solid approach, I just don't believe Kanter is a better overall product than Knight, Williams, Irving, or any number of other possibilities. Yeah, he looks great, but in my opinion he might just be the next Greg Oden.

I agree with going big with the #3 pick. With the #12, I like Jimmer, Singleton, Brooks, and Burks. I think we have some good options at 12. I sure hope there is a season next year.

And I agree as well. I like Fredette and Brooks. I'm not interested in Singleton. I've never caught the Burks fever, but that's not to say he won't be good.
Also Biyombo might be there at 12. There are plenty of good gambles at 12.

Everyone listen to the nut.

Don't think drafting Knight means building around a PG again. I think the Jazz are structured now to be building around their bigs: Favors for the long-term and Jefferson for the short-term.

Wouldn't Millsap be the one for the short-term? ;)

Right now it would appear either Kanter will land in Minnesota or here. If Minnesota takes him, we still have Jefferson, Favors, and Millsap for bigs, and likely some FA, even Fes (roll eyes) or Elson. Not sure there's another big worthy of #3.
Williams would likely be available if Kanter isn't, but I'm not sold he'd be a good fit in a Jazz uniform. Yeah, great athlete who probably is better suited at SF in the NBA, but is he a WILLING defender in a team concept? Or, how is he at running set plays with his teammates on offense? One-on-one, his much-published game, ain't the Jazz way of doin' things... I'm just unsure of his overall basketball IQ. Not sayin' it's poor; I'm just not sure 'bout him...

Looks like we agree on the BPA approach. If Williams is available, I want him, but if Irving and Williams go 1-2 like expected, I would be all over Kanter.

And honestly, Oden is a terrible comparison. Oden was a great defender coming out of school, while Kanter has been compared to Boozer because of his supposed solid offensive game and weak defense.

I think if we get DWill_2 (and it's looking quote likely with Cavs scheduling Kanter's 2nd work out and Knight vs Irving)

.. then I think we have to take him and some how tailored our offense to fit the personnel.

Look at the Finals - athletic wings win games.

And let's hope Favors can develop into an offensive force...

Would the Jazz really wait to the very last moment to work out Knight if he was high on their list? We have nothing to worry about.

I think Knight and his agent have some say in scheduling the workouts. Or maybe the Jazz waited until the last minute to see how much Brandon could improve after the combine. Knight said he's been working on his left hand. I'll bet the combine and Kanter's workout probably set the Jazz board in terms of 1-4. The rest of the workouts are to decide on the #12 pick, especially if a particular player slides. Also, if someone really moves up, KOC might decide there is decent value in trading out of the #3. My prediction is Knight and the best SF available.

We may not even have a pick next year. GS could sneak in as the 8th seed. Or, they could miss, but win one of the lottery picks. Jazz might be just good enough for the playoffs as well. And in that case, we lose our 1st-round pick.

I was going with "Oft Injured" rather than play style. :)

Weaknesses: One of the big concerns scouts have with Kanter is his physical health. He has had a history of knee problems and there are concerns about his knees not checking out 100% when he has NBA physicals …

I'm no expert, but if they're worried his knees won't check out 100% at the NBA level, I don't like where that's heading.

The worst thing that could have happened to Utah was Jackson being hired as GS's coach. They are going to be AWFUL next year. Awful. Trade that pick because it is worthless.

True. I do think more than likely we will have one of those picks. I see the Warriors improving, but not making the playoffs. Not with Jackson as coach. If I had to guess, I would say the pick will be around 10, and we could package that with Al or Harris to move up. If not, then f***.
