The Richard Jefferson "wow this Vet is surprisingly awesome" exclamation thread

People smashed him when we made the trade. I didn't. I knew he would play way better than last year.

Surprisingly, he seemed to have hops despite being 33.

He should play...

You know he's doing something right when the entire preseason has gone by and most people seem ok about Corbin starting and playing him over Burks.
Or maybe it's that Burks has been shooting so poorly. With me, I'd rather see A) Hayward playing at SG and B) Burks as a 6th man. Gordon creates mismatches at SG with his size and the Jazz need him to be a playmaker with the PG's they have. Second, Burks' strength is getting to the basket. He can do that as part of as the 2nd unit and he'll get a lot of touches. With the starters, he'd be the 4th option on offense.

He does look good and will fetch is something nice at the deadline from a contender. No way he is playing for us in march if he continues to show well.
Nobody is taking on that huge contract to have him play on their team. Well, except for us that is. The Jazz have a long history of trying to have their cake and eat it too. Why trade for players who are 'done' in order to get future picks when you can trade for players that are being miss-managed who still have something to give and still get future picks. I admit, I was one of the guys who thought that Jefferson was done. I jumped on Biedrins' bandwagon because he is still in his prime age, but it looks like I might have been wrong on that front, and while I want Burks to get time and wanted him to start, I am beginning to agree that it is a good idea to have a solid veteran with a strong history of talented performance on the floor with the core players. He isn't a threat to them because he is just a couple of years from retirement anyway and can't handle all-star player minutes on the floor, but when the going gets tough and the young players just want to go home and play X-Box, Jefferson can rally the troops and keep the ship afloat. He can stay, he can play, and he can sign a new reasonable contract next year if he shows he's still got game.

(notes: Jefferson's contract is still way too rich for what he provides on the floor. However, he does still have value. Remember that Jefferson played for Lindsey on the Spurs when Lindsey was assistant GM, I doubt that is a coincidence. I think Lindsey picked him up specifically to play for the team, knowing the kind of guy he was, and totally shafted the Warriors because of their lack of vision about their own players. In short, he stays on the team until the end of his contact because of who he is and the Jazz's loyalty to their players, and might even be re-signed for more reasonable money if he preforms.)
