What's new

the situation in Egypt

Umm, because this cultural practice is being performed on people who are not willing participants.

Last I understood it, most circumcised males have no recollection of the procedure or giving their approval.

Are you saying males in this country who are circumcised had a say in it?

Yes. There are men that choose to be circumcised after reaching adulthood. Granted, the majority do not but it still happens.

I can't imagine many women choosing to have their ****oris lopped off of their own choice.

I can't believe I missed this earlier. For UB, may he rest in pieces.

What gives me the "right" to berate their traditions? Because they are barbaric and done against defenseless little girls. What don't you get about little girls getting their ****oris cut out and their genitals cut off. Their ability to enjoy sexual relations is destroyed when this happens.

These so called "operations" aren't done by a doctor. They are done by a barber or a midwife.

I wasn't talking about it happening in Egypt, I was talking about it being performed here in the US.

But as far as changing Egypt's traditions, why don't you go there and tell them to stop doing this? After you

B.S. The right wing has always been the Republicans. Nothing has changed, beside the Democrats figured out another way to keep the black people in line...keep them dependent on Democrat handouts, and support the genocide of black babies.

Ummm what?

Because all Democrats need to stay in office is the black vote? Never mind the rest of the 75 percent of the population or 230 million Americans that aren't black.

Depends on their perspective.

There are many traditions throughout Africa and the Middle East that we would deem as barbaric... Vice Versa...

I would guess most of the women probably would want to avoid the procedure. But due to family pressure, tradition, religious views, views on sexuality, etc they go through it.

Once again, who has the choice? If the girl is underage, do the parents decide? In these countries, how many rights to (underage) women have? How best to go about improving their conditions? How many more radical groups and terrorists will be created by what they deem as western interference to their culture? And why do we get to decide what's right and what's wrong?

If a woman comes to an American doctor in the US and demands to have this procedure done, can the doctor refuse to perform this or does he have to obey because it's "her choice?"

You know what this thread needs? A 7th post in a row from someone who doesn't have a clue what's going on/what they're talking about.

What exactly have you added to this conversation?

How can you insult anybody when you're an insurance salesman who spends so much of his day on these messages boards talking about poop?

You can check above your waterfall of nonsense and see what I've contributed. I'm not sure why you assumed I was talking about you, but if there is smoke, there is usually fire. At least I'm comfortable in knowing that I know nothing, whereas you feel the need to fake like you're smart and well-read. As VinylTool would say, "Ironical Explosion" and/or "Ooof".

Good burn with the 'insurance salesman' bit, that's some wicked brutal stuff right there. How will I go on?

If you have a problem with what I posted, why don't you direct your attention to that? What was I "wrong" about?

Female circumcision can be done at any stage of their life. However, from all I've read it's done in their infancy.

Female circumcision is typically a rite of passage as a girl moves to womanhood. As such, most FGM takes place just prior to the beginning of menstruation, say 10-12 years old. There are some countries/cultures where it is performed at earlier ages, and it is reported that it is being done at progressively younger ages but to say that it is done in infancy is wrong.

So it can be done at any time. Many report that it's done in infancy, as I said. I hadn't read that it was a rite of passage as a girl moving to womanhood. So what exactly was a I wrong about?
