Here's the 'blatant travel' being pulled off in NBA games. Manu was abusing a similar move back in '05 vs the Nuggets in the playoffs. George Karl will tell ya all about it.
Also known as the UTEP 2 step.
The last clip of the HS kid.... he definitely carried.
...you mean the story of the "I just palmed the ball so flagrantly without the refs calling the violation....that Naismith rolled over in his grave twice!"
Basketball dribbling has not been only slapping the ball to the ground anymore, grandpa.
Hey, I agree that the Bob Cousy dribbling was the other end of the spectrum.....but the flagrant palming of the ball that is allowed in todays NBA is so bad that it leaves the defensive player wondering if the guy has picked up his dribble or not! Nobody is saying we go back to the Bob Cousy days! But come on....you have to admit that the rules on palming and carrying the ball are completely ignored!!!
I admit that Lebron travel ruins basketball. But a decent dose of handling for long brings much more artistic appearance to it.
LeBron ruins basketball? That's going way too far.
You may not like when LeBron travels but he does so much other things right on and off the court that he makes the game allot better for me.
I'm glad I get to watch him play
What I see is that you are virtually ignoring the videos for the sake of the argument you want to make. I've watched these videos and while there were a few occasions when palming should have been called, there were also many where there was no violation and their incredible dribbling skills got them an open shot. I agree that palming and traveling ought to be called more consistently (even on superstars) but I don't agree that the vast majority of dribbling in these videos is a violation. What is at issue here is the fact that when players are allowed to palm/carry the ball the advantage it gives them takes away for the need to pass the ball to get a decent shot for there team. Thus, you have more isolation plays, more "one on one" and the product becomes unbearable to watch for the most part! It's almost mind boggling that some players are so quick and fast to begin with and with the added advantage of being able to palm or carry the ball....NO type of defense can be played to keep the player in front of him! For example, with Westbrook and James, NO matter how much the defender backs off, they are able to get by him, because they virtually pick up there dribble and run past the defender! It use to be you could back off 3 or 4 steps and force the quicker guys to have to pull up and take a jump shot. Now, even when you back off 10 feet....they STILL get by you! Can you explain that....without the assistance of being able to palm the ball? The 1st step of guys like Westbrook and James is so explosive simply because that 1st step is done without dribbling the ball!!! Does anyone else out there see what I'm saying or see the same thing I'm seeing?
