Hate to be the one to break it to everyone, but realistically we were a FULL-ON ALL-STAR away from contending WITH Hayworthless on the roster. Best case Gordum was a tier 2 all-star. To really compete we needed a full upgrade at another spot to at least another tier 2 all-star, preferably a tier 1, in ADDITION to retaining Diarrheaward. If we could have retained Doucheward and added, say, CP3, then we would have been instant contenders. However, obviously, the opposite happened.

So losing him, ceteris paribus, set us back realistically a minimum of 3 years, as it will likely take that long even for a top-flight talent to really hit their stride (Mitchell maybe), or it will take that long to acquire and flip assets into another all-star caliber player. And even then, in the new super-team NBA, that gets us BACK to being a 2nd round exit in the playoffs.

Now, we can hope for development and health from our existing guys, but frankly aside from some admittedly pretty awesome flashes from Mitchell in the summer league, none of our current crop has shown they have the chops to replace Hayturd, let alone become a tier 1 all-star level player in the foreseeable future. To just stay at our current level we need someone to step up and fully replace what Traitorward provided, and that is a tall order for anyone in our current crop. Even adding Crowder doesn't do that, but it is better than nothing at this point, as it is at least an asset.

Bottom line, if Haysodomy leaves without us getting some asset in return, we may have put ourselves back far enough to waste Gobert's prime years.

Hopefully DL has some magic card up his sleeve he has yet to play.

Everyone seems to be forgetting about Burks. I see people contemplating the lineup next year and not even mentioning him. Is he really as worthless as everyone, or almost everyone, on here thinks? Could he become the player we once thought he would be?

He's not worthless but he has to prove that he is over his injuries . Until then I think it's fair to be skeptical.

I love the kid, but I'm wary of counting on him until he can prove that he can stay healthy. I think that if he does get healthy, his contract is more valuable than his role on the team. Jazz need to play the young'ens and then try to find another Donovan Mitchell in the draft next year.

Timeline for really competing in the playoffs again is in three seasons when Rudy turns 27. Start working towards that.

We aren't wasting Gobert's prime.

this season might be a step back but this time next year we'll be in a better position that we are today.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. Now we are two stars away with time not in our favor in regards to Rudy. That's why I would prefer us to take an approach where we do a mini tank job of sorts for the next 1-2 years. Trade the vets for as many assets as possible, clear cap space, improve our draft position, and play the young guys. Hopefully one of the young guys develops into a stud next to Rudy and we can use the cap space to land a third star. Within 3 years we can be back in business at the top of the West.

Everyone who says we are "just fine" what does that mean exactly? Personally I want to see us get back to the finals and have a shot at winning it. Anything less is not fine, really. By just fine if you mean we will win some games and get into the playoffs without ever really making any noise then yep we are just fine. But losing Hayworthless puts us a step back even from that. If we are "back" to "just fine" in a couple of years that means we are back to a 2nd round playoff exit. I do not feel that is "just fine". Frankly there is a lot of work to be done to ensure we do not waste Gobert's best years. Players need to make serious jumps in talent/ability/effort (Hood/Burks/Mitchell, etc.) or we need to add players of all-star caliber to match with Rudy to make a serious run at it.

But hey, if everyone is ok with repeated playoff exits and no real chance at the ring, then I guess we are just fine.

Just enjoy the team man.

You being fine or not being fine with the state of the team literally has no barring on what the team does. If you expect loyalty from a guy like Gordon Hayward, then start showing some loyalty for the squad we got now so they want to stay around.

Lol, like we were on the path to the finals with Hayward. We should have not put all our eggs in the Hayward basket. We overpayed for Ingles so Hayward could have a buddy.

Time to move Joe and Diaw for some other young talent.

It means we aren't ****ting blood yet.

Does that make you happy? No one's ****ting blood, and no one has gangrene yet because all the fingers and toes are still there.

Also: no signs of spinal meningitis. What do you think?

Personally I have always thought that Haywood was way overrated. Hayward is good but we can replace him. I never wanted him as the face of our franchise. He lacks the fight and passion I want in the "leader" of the team. In hindsight, Haywood just doesn't have Jazz DNA. Guys like Mitchell, Gobert and even ingles have the fight and passion I want.

This was a big point in my OP. Hayturd is a good 2nd fiddle, but without a true first fiddle, or a couple of them, we won't be chasing rings anytime soon. Now we don't have that 2nd fiddle anymore either so we are a full 2 solid all-star caliber players from realistically challenging in the playoffs in any meaningful way.

This makes no sense but that is par for your course, so ok.

No one said we were. I said Hayward PLUS Rudy PLUS another tier 1 all-star would make a team that could compete.

Oh wait this response was from MA. Nevermind. Continue in your trolling.
