Let me refute this mill-knee-slapper real quick to get on with my idea.

Bush won the straw poll in 99. Doll tied for first in 95. Herbert Walker Bush finished 3rd in 87 and 1st in 79 (although he wasn't the nominee in 80, he was the runner up guy).

So anyway... The Ron Paul thing further intrigues me, and it has been running around in my head a lot since his strong Ames showing. With the voter turnout in the Primary's largely being the party motivated and not the middle ground folk, I think Paul has a good chance of picking up a ton of delegates and really has a shot at the nomination for the first time as long as the hype keeps up. He almost tripled his amount of votes from the 07 straw poll.

But I think the interesting quesiton is: How would the party react to Ron Paul 12??? would the concerned Social Reps put up a lame duck 3rd candidate like Bachmann to keep someone who is decidedly more "socially non-intravenous" then Obama is, from turning the motherland into a teenage wasteland of hookers, gamblers, and heroine addicts.

As an advocate of political turmoil and chaos... I would vote Paul. And honestly with the giant **** the GOP has taken over Obama's tenure, I don't think we can afford 4 more years of hostage situation/ chess match/ political bouncy castle.

Ron has a problem with the military loving base of the Republican party.

I heard earlier today that Gov Christie has formed an exploratory committee regarding the 2012 presidential election. Here's hoping it is positive and he jumps into the fray very soon!

No one knows what a "moderate" thinks on any particular issue on any particular day so how would they know?

Well, there is no unique "moderate" set of position anymore than there is a unique conservative or liberal set of positions.

More to the point, liberals would probably prefer to see Bachmann or Perry run than Romney.

That story has already been shot down by Christie's people.

If he did run and managed to get the nomination he probably wouldn't even win his own state if the polls in this story are accurate.

Having said that I will say it's refreshing to have a leader who has passion for what he believes in - even if I do disagree with him a lot of the time.

If someone like Allen West ran the color wouldn't matter. I think you overblow the whole race thing.

Just saying... some southerners when faced with the choice of black guy v. Antiwar monger... would be caught between a rock and a hard place.

**** him.

LOL - spoken like a true educator from New Jersey (j/k).

Seriously, what Christie is finding out now is what all these tea-baggers are bound to find out very soon. And that's when you hitch your wagon to austerity measures and defending to the death tax breaks for the rich - that may be all well and good. But if you're not producing job one, then people are going to turn against you very, very quickly.

Why did they put both Mormon's as electable?
I'm thinking electable=who the liberals want on the ticket.

Actually, this election is just a throw-away for the RINO RNP honchos. RINO/DINO "insiders" are all on the same team, they just take turns being the scapegoat officeholders while the new world order is worked out in the UN. So why not let the unelectable mormons take the mudbath over their past for a year, once again.

And shhhhhh. . . . don't let any newspeople mention Ron Paul.

C'mon, you know as well as anybody that Ron had his shot. It probably came mid 80's...maybe 88 when he first became a presidential candidate and the system started perceiving him as a threat. The price was simply his soul. I'm sure he could've been a member of the Trilateral Commission.....Bohemian Club....maybe even graduated to the Bilderberg Group eventually if he did what they wanted long enough. But as it is, we absolutely can't afford having a principled person in the oval office. It would be horrible. Only the most corrupt zombies need apply.

For the record, I'm pretty convinced I would vote for Huntsman over Obama at this point. Of course, Huntsman doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.
