What's new

The value of 9th and 13th picks.

Nominated for most pointless thread this year. By the end of the week, GS will be in 7th place and finish up somewhere in the 4-6 range.
And Utah has a much easier schedule than Houston. So ZERO draft picks.

Maybe a better thread would be what can the Memo TPE and next year's 1st rounder get the Jazz in a trade.

Next year's first rounder? Unless we make the playoffs, we will not be in a position to trade our first round pick, because it will still (potentially) belong to the T'Wolves.

Lilliard would fit Utah like a mitten.
Kendal would fit Utah like a glove.
Both work, in some cases a mitten might be superior, but the glove will be better in the long run.

I'll let you be the judge. (seriously the best pick of Marshall I could find on google images. His mouth is open in pretty much every picture on there).

We don't need anymore rookies, Millsap still gets treated like one. Plus this just give KOC an excuse to let Favors, Burks, Hayward and Kanter go when Portland attempts to sign them.. and then give CJ and extension.

Agreed that too many rookies may be a bad thing. Which is why we should get Marshall and Zeller. Two very mature rookies.

Also out of Burks, Kanter, Favors, and Hayward, I only see Favors and Kanter demanding huge money (because big men get paid if they aren't that good).

Great, now Lilliard's face will forever dominate the 2nd page of this 'should be dead' thread.

Once this season is over, Burks and Kanter won't be rookies anymore. That will leave Utah with a grand total of zero rookies. None. Two more rookies would be just fine.

Seriously though, as for the "too much youth" argument, I laugh at anyone who thinks the team would crumble if we replaced Carroll and Evans with 2 lotto picks. Personally, I would prefer to replace Carroll and CJ or Bell with two rookies, but for anyone who actually buys the "too much youth" BS, Utah could easily replace Evans and Carrol and still have plenty of vets. Plenty of room at the end of the bench for two more lotto picks.

I'd say there's almost zero chance Utah ends up with both picks, but the too much youth crap needs to stop.

And isn't that what I posted in my second sentence... that "Utah has a much easier schedule than Houston. So ZERO draft picks."?

I don't see Utah getting any first round picks, so changes will need to be made via trades or FA. And since Utah will be very close to the cap, only the Memo TPE comes into play this summer (also don't believe Harris or Al's contracts are attractive as expirings until the trade deadline).

I agree with Freakazoid on this topic. Talent wins in the NBA and the Jazz team is definitely in need of more talent. The Jazz have been pretty good recently of drafting young guys without immaturity issues. All four of our young guys are hard workers who get a long with each other. I am going to be bummed if the Jazz have zero draft picks in this draft. I think best way for Utah to realistically compete for championships are to acquire talent through the Jazz and sprinkle the roster with solid veterans who play team ball. Adding Marshall or Lillard plus another a SF or legitimate C would make it easier to trade AJ or Harris for future assets or the SF or PG the Jazz desire.

Play the kids and develop team chemistry and the Jazz will be legitimate contenders. Giving away draft picks and trying to buy a championship makes us the NY Knicks.

Depends on the rookies we draft anyway. Our locker room and team culture aren't bad but we aren't the Spurs who can focus lazy talent. Players who are driven internally would being winner with or with out veteran leadership.

I see this thread has made it to the third page.

Another stunning victory for Bean****

I think spacing out rookies can be a great move in order to avoid multiple contracts expiring at once. This is how teams are forced into losing players, especially when dealing with high caliber rookies.

As far as the GS pick goes, I think it would be funny if GS ended up with the 7th pick, but then due to the lottery (one of the teams 8-14 end up with a top 3 pick--similar to what happened with Utah last year moving up to get Kanter) moving back into the 8th position which would give the Jazz the pick...
