What's new

The Walking Dead

So if we are trying to avoid spoilers this will be hard to discuss, but I wonder more what that character's love interest will think about that character's exile. I don't want the other character to leave due to that character being kicked out. That is one character I would not want to leave the show or it would affect how much I want to continue watching.

Ok time to figure out how to use the spoiler code, or else people will just have to accept there are spoilers in this thread.

I'm leaning towards that and will post accordingly from here on out.

I am starting to like her character and think that while Rick is being hypocritical he does have a point. Rick is no more trustworthy than Carol. Rick has clearly done what is best for his family v. best for the group on occassion. He has crossed that line before and gotten crazy. Liek letting Tyrese and his 4 person group run off. That dad and son would still be alive and having another 2 guys willing to do what needs to be done is always nice in this type of enviroment.

I'd like to see Carol stay in the show, like Andrea when she got seperated, and lead to a furthering of the plot. Say finding the governor or meeting and joining another group and earning back Ricks trust.

Ok so let's do this, list off, of the remaining characters, which you do NOT want to see leave the show (killed off, whatever) in descending order of importance.

My list:

1) Darrell
2) Glenn
3) Herschell
4) Maggie
5) Michonne
6) Tyrese (although he is becoming more unstable so his stock is slipping imo)

Other than that I really don't care if they kill off any of the other characters, or remove them in some other way. I would be fine if they killed off Rick and anyone in his family. I would be more upset if his son were killed off than him. None of the newer characters have enough staying power at this point to matter much, imo.

Daryl, Tyrese, Sasha, Rick, Michonne, Maggie, Glen. I'd add Carl if it is hard nose last season Carl. Still stung about Merl. New character addition this year has sucked. basically just that army doctor guy and I dont care for his character.

The amusing part of this is the contrast between the people spouting off things like this and yet trying to maintain their composure. It just entertains me to no end... I was so sad that show got cancelled. I liked it more than Justified. A lot more than Justified.

I use that as a comparison as he's the main actor in both.

I tries so hard to get into Justified, but I couldn't get into it.

I loved Deadwood and was disappointed they only had a few seasons.

I agree. I liked the track that Carol's character was on. She was getting more ruthless, and the decision to kill those people was definitely controversial. but was it unwarranted? Was it something Rick himself would not have done at one point or another in the course of the show? I think not. She is thinking globally, so to speak, and acting locally. Doing what needs to be done with no qualms. One tough bitch really, but that is what she needs to be. But I can completely understand Rick kicking her out. He is doing the same thing, more or less, but he still has a family to protect, so he thinks more locally than Carol was. Carol has no more family to protect so she is trying to do what is best for the entire group. Interesting how that perspective has kind of reversed. I don't want to see her go, and on my list I would put her behind Herschell. I hope they follow her story arc and bring her back to the group at some point.

An interesting plot twist last night. I wonder what happens to that character. Do we see them again? Do they reconcile? Or is that character being used in the spin off Walking Dead show that got the green light from The Walking Dead.

Stoked say wha??

Another Walking Dead show?

Walking Dead: New York?

Yeah with the new characters it feels like they are trying to poo-flinging approach. Chuck the **** against the wall and see what sticks.

Carol is like a politician who does whatever they want regardless of what their constituents want or she's like the CIA who thinks they are above the law no matter what.

That's my Marilyn Manson metaphor for the day.

1-800-Dead-Live!

Swears and cusses don't offend me, but the number and randomness they were used in Deadwood reached the point of ridiculousness and became distracting for me.

"Do you want a ****sucking whiskey?" "Yes I want a mother****ing whiskey. Oh, and bring me a **** steak, too." "Okay, have a nice ****sucking day you **** mother****er."

I will try that ****sucking show again.

I totally agree.

It just doesn't even fit sometimes.

Something about **** sucker and the C U next tuesday word seems to land on your ears like a ton of bricks.

Basically the same world as The Walking Dead just in a different place with different people with no connection to this show or cast. So just like that. I'd like to see one out west, say CO or maybe foreign like Brazil.

I liked how the show spun the medic doctor like he had some big dark secret. Turns out he is an alcoholic. No ****. People are dying, rising as zombies and eating everyone. How are not an alcohohic?!

I agree with elroacho about TWD. Not all of life is adventure, and not every danger is a zombie trying to eat your face. TWD does a decent job of showing how hectic, boring, slow, fast, scary, depressing, and awesome a post-apocolyptic world could be. The dynamics within the group and their efforts to rebuild society are, for me at least, easily as if not far more interesting than the "zombie problem". To me the zombies simply set the parameters of the new world, kind of like the cold war, and the real story is how the people adapt and deal with the new rules. It is character-based more than I think people give it credit for, as really is all good fiction, be it in print or film. If you don't have characters you can care about the story matters little, imo.

But to me Breaking Bad was the better show all the way around. It is very hard to compare the 2, but I think overall, in nearly every way, Breaking Bad was better: better writing, acting, story-lines, and more importantly the underlying story, which is fully necessary to keep the other "story-lines" moving and relevant as time passes, as well as how the series was wrapped up as a complete filled-out final "work", so to speak. It was a fascinating case-study in how our choices lead us to different paths, and whole new sets of choices, and how a decent man can allow pride and a series of choices and justifications to draw him down a path he would undoubtedly not have chosen for himself from the outset. To me this is reflected in all of our lives to some degree, and that is why it resonated with me. Who hasn't made choices they regretted, or wondered at times "how did I get here, right here, right now?"

But as elroacho mentioned, every story will be taken by some people differently than others and have a deeper impact on some than others and to me that is what makes fiction great. The meaning changes as the reader/listener/viewer filters the information and the story is therefore the same, and different, for everyone.

Cool stuff.

Great post.

It's definitely just an average show but the philosophical questions it brings up are very intriguing.

Ok, finally caught up. Not sad about Carol.

Pretty sure she will be back. They put too much into her character at the start of this season to just quietly write her out with no fanfare.

Not to toot my own lower horn, but Reno would be a great place for a setting for TWD. Close-ish to larger metro areas, yet rural enough for a very different feel from the current show.

These are best sent in a pos rep, tbh.

I don't use the rep system.

That said, I watched episode 11 last night. **** it was bad. Writers have lost direction.
