On Wednesday, MTV said its popular animated show about channel-surfing, metalhead high school losers would return.

The half-hour comedy ran from 1993 to 1997 and was highly controversial for its time. Early episodes showed the boys' obsession with fire, which was quickly toned down by the censors. The show also is known for offering running commentary on music videos between animated shorts.

The series, created by "Office Space" director Mike Judge (who voiced both animated idiots), spawned the 1996 film "Beavis and Butt-Head Do America," which featured the voices of Bruce Willis, David Letterman and Demi Moore, and it spawned a spin-off called "Daria."

MTV execs said the new "Beavis and Butt-Head" episodes would begin airing this summer.

So is MTV desperate? You going to watch? I just hope it doesnt suck and tarnish the legacy....makes me think if they did an Office Space 2. I will be checking it out though with high hopes.

I heard Mike Judge hates the new episodes and isn't going to make any more past the 16 that he's under contract for.

Either way, wake me up when King of the Hill (best show of the decade) comes back.

I for one am excited and will be watching. Where I think Beavis and Butthead really excelled was their ability to mock/praise the pop culture of the times via their music video watching. I've got the Beavis and Butthead collection on DVD but it is sorely lacking because none of the music video footage is included (obviously, royalties and liscensing fees would be a nightmare).

I can't wait for the espisode in which these two come across a Lady GaGa video.

Really? That sucks and is depressing news. Yea King of the Hill was great and should be back on. But who would play Luanne?

This pleases me. I've been watching a lot of Ren & Stimpy re-runs lately, and those are still excellent.

I'm confused as to why Mike Judge would hate the first 16 episodes that are being released. I would assume he's the one writing them.

I still watch the original B&B. Have them all on disc. Like the early simpsons (first 8 seasons or so) they never get old.

Do they have the music videos on them? The show was good, but them watching music videos and critiquing them made it great.

I own the first three seasons of B&B and I think the music videos are not in them. I forget though. They've been sitting on my shelf since my first and only DVD viewing about a year ago.

The videos are in the episodes I have on disc....I have the version they aired which included the videos.

Mike Judge got artist-becomes-successful-and-jaded-and-loses-interest-in-making-products-with-integrity-and-does-things-for-a-check-itis. It happens. Might as well call it Matt Groening Syndrome.

What has Matt Groening just done for a check? Maybe he stopped paying attention to the Simpsons, but that's because he was making Futurama, the greatest animated show ever.

Anyway, I loved B & B when I was a kid, but I have a bad feeling about it.

It is apparent to me and my family and some of my friends that like the Simpsons that he kind of stopped paying attention to it around season 9 or 10. There was a serious decline after season 8 imho. The best seasons of them all imo were the Conan O'Brien seasons (1-5 or thereabouts). The last 5 or 6 seasons have been nigh unwatchable (although I still watched them hoping for a renaissance, but it ain't happening).

And Futurama has something about it that makes it great. It tends to the stupid more than the Simpsons did but I think it is edgier and has more interesting characters with more depth than the Simpsons. Of course that is part of what made seasons 1-8 great on the Simpson is they were still filling out the characters and they still did stuff you didn't expect. After that they just became stereotypes of themselves. Hope that does not happen to Futurama.

I don't think the old Beavis and Buttheads stand the test of time. I did like them back in the day. I might try out an episode or two of the new one.

Yeah I guess they are soundalikes not the originals. Too bad.

How can this fail? With as much crap there is for them to bag on it will be Epic.. from Jersey Shore to Kardashian it will be comedy.
