Third Party

Are we going to see a third party candidate win this year? Or if not win, get a lot of support?

I would love to see a third party candidate gain some hold and establish an actual threat to the status quo. It would be awesome to have third party control of one of the legislative bodies one day too.

The scenarios that I could see are ad follows:

Hillary wins dem nomination, bernie runs independent.

Bloomberg runs as the bloomberg party.

Trump wins the Republican nomination, Romney runs as a republican as well somehow. Maybe a splintered republican party?

At any rate, we will probably get some clarification on Romney tomorrow. He is scheduled to give an "important address" tomorrow about about the election.

There are always other parties like the green and libertarian parties that run in a general election. Problem is getting a third party in the debates, on all 50 ballots, media coverage and decent financial backing/support.

Bernie won't run if he fails to win the Democratic nomination. He doesn't want to be the guy who splits the democratic vote and hands the White House to a maniac (Trump or Cruz).

I think the following scenario has some legit potential: a coterie of powerful republicans unites behind a republican candidate and defeats Trump. Trump then feels disrespected by the party and runs as an independent.

This seems likely. As does bloomberg running.

Romney holding a press conference today to discuss the state of the 2016 election.

It won't be to endorse Trump....

3rd party candidate has no chance cause voters are retarded

Since Romney is part of Repub establishment and they want Trump gone, Romney SHOULD endorse him. Kiss of death, IMO.

For the most part. Also, does anyone trust the electronic voting machines? Why not go to paper ballot voting. You have people just vote on a paper, drop the vote in a box and then there's a representative of each party counting the votes at each electoral district. Then the count is sent to a central unit in the state. It's how it's done in Spain, it's fast and efficient and the vote fraud chances are minimum.

And I was disappointed when I opened the thread.
Thought it was another get together at GF's.

I voted third party last election. I was disappointed in Mitt Romney's campaign as he was not the guy who had run the Olympics for us. He was too handled and his leadership abilities didn't come through. I was still conservative enough four years ago to not consider voting for a Democrat for President. I will vote for third party again unless a Sanders miracle occurs.

People tell me that voting third party is throwing a vote away. But I think voting for one of the two main parties is throwing a vote away if you do not agree with their politics. If more of us voted our conscience, perhaps a third party could someday gain traction.

After Romney's speech today, and the reaction to it, we may be seeing the splintering of the GOP. I don't know if that means a third party, but one is becoming two. Romney's speech was an incredible, jaw dropping attack on Trump. Await Trump's reply. Questioned Trump's stability.

Hopefully the more middle ground Rs leave and are joined by the more middle road Ds and we see a third party being born. One can only hope.

I posted this elsewhere, but I see three groups in the country right now:

The white trash/uneducated/foodstamp/Trump group.

The establishment/Wall Street/Hillary/Romney group

The more forward thinking Ron Paul/Bernie/middle class group.

We know the third group won't win this year. It will be interesting to see who takes over: The bottom or the top.

It will also be interesting to see if the middle class can bind together and get someone that represents them before they disappear.

I think that is a plausible dynamic at this point.

Trump wins and the GOP splits. Clinton wins and then gets indicted and faces criminal charges.

The more moderate Rs and Ds get disgusted and form the American/Freedom/Prosperity/Whatever Party.

Once the 2 party mold is broken it's broken and that is something that is huge for America.

I wished it wasn't a 2 party system but an individual system. People would have less prejudices of voting one individual or the other because I like his policies but he's "on the other side". It would encourage more people to actually look into the candidate's policies more deeply imo. For instance I like Bernie's non-interventionist foreign policy which doesn't make me a dem, socialist or what you will.

Would love a realistic third contender

I agree. There is a reason why Ron Paul said Bernie was the closest to a libertarian out of all the candidates.

Quit looking at the D or the R and look at what they have done and what they want to do. You'd be surprised how often you vote Republican....AND....Democrat.

Hell, you might even vote Republican AND Democrat on the SAME BALLOT.

This would be the least inspiring party ever. And would stand for sweet **** all except getting elected.
