What's new

This is why we want our cap space

So looks like Boston and Philly are the top contenders for tanking. I'm actually making a list of the 16 or so contenders and summarizing off-season additions/subtractions. Thought I'd wait until at least Howard makes his decision. That could impact the list.

I disagree about Boston doing an all out tank job. They might lose a bunch of games but they have a few things going against them that they could win too many games. Those three things are:

Rondo
Brad Stevens
Playing in the East

I've been saying this for a few days now... trake on Biedrins & Jefferson - then swap our '14 pick for Harrison Barnes.

I think that's a fair deal all round. Plus we forego our "tank year" and can start going for the playoffs straight away.

Burke
Hayward/Burks
Barnes
Favors
Kanter

I would take that deal if the pick was top 10ish protected. the only other issue i have is trying to keep that team together...

I'd do it. Make the warriors give us two future first round picks. Or just Barnes.

Warriors will give us a sweetener to take on Biedrens or Jefferson, but no way in hell they add Barnes or 2 future firsts.

I think adding just 1 future first will incline the jazz to accept. Remember, our salary cap is only 25 mil this year, and we have to get to 52 mil or else we have to pay the league. We should want to take on expirings to fill it up.

Not even close. Bogut is always injured. Beidrins and Jefferson are garbage. Why swap picks for Barnes? He needs to be the bonus for taking on the expiring contracts. He was a #7 pick. We'd still likely miss the playoffs and give them a lottery pick. Heck, even the 16th might be the equivalent of Barnes in next year's draft. Not even two future firsts from GS is enough, as with Howard/Curry they easily have one of the top-4 teams in the WC; picks would be in the mid to late 20's.

But we can wait until the trade deadline. This is a game of chicken. If Howard truly wants to sign with GS, they'll have to cave - or he walks away. Jazz don't have to do this deal. They can wait until the deadline and actually save money, then get decent veterans or salaries + picks.
