What's new

This may not warrant its own thread.....

This. I agree that this is the perfect time, but let's just start with Ty, shall we? We already have good talent (and will get more in the draft) that is going to waste with a horrible coach.

That was actually precisely my point in the OP. Let's make a giant hire (find a way, DL) and let him make those decisions. Point is, the Jazz are perfectly suited for a MAJOR turnaround the likes the NBA has never seen before. Someone would want to champion that. <---- see what I did there.

but what an ideal time AND situation to blow a team completely up.

With some nice trade pieces (Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks, Burke), a superstar pick, another potentially great pick, expirings, and a deep free agency, and almost undoubtedly a new coach..... we could see a blow up of epic proportions.

Probably won't happen because the FO might be concerned the casual fan saw it as nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to an awful year, but think about this...

If you were a damn good coach and you knew the Jazz would give you MAJOR input (like call the shots).. the Jazz are looking stellar. Sounds crazy, I know... but an egomaniac sideline guru would eat this up.

Center your team around the future.. Jabari or Wiggins. Shed the dead weight wannabe core for another top 10 pick (cheaper replacement of an equal player, imo), and go after two studs in FA or via trade.

What I'm really getting at here is a coach... and all the possibilities a real stud would have at his disposal.

So who is it?

Sounds like Pitino to the Celtics all over again.

Could be. Good thing, though.. is that the Jazz have much more in the 'options drawer' than the Celtics did back then. We're not solely reliant on getting the #1 pick.

Phil Jackson doesn't coach teams unless he has the best roster in the NBA.

Coach K would be awesome and I'm going to pretend for the rest of today that it's so crazy that it just might work.

Scott Layden is a name that intrigues me.

If I'm Dennis Lindsey I at least put some feelers out to Jim Boylen's agent.

Calhoun might be avail.

Srs tho, what coach would fit the bill here?

John Stockton. I know he's coaching his kids and enjoying retirement but I can't help but think that he would make a great coach for this team.

^add a genius offensive assistant and I'm in.

How do we know that he isn't a good offensive coach? Superstar-ball is more about space than it is sets. And as much as I hate to side with green about anything, Phil Johnson could be useful if he's willing.

Any chance at Johnson when out the window when he discovered his true calling as a dynamic and engaging television personality.

I don't write off the Bulls until it's obvious. Right now they are in shock + played against a possible contender and the current #2 Western team on back to backs. Give them 5 more games and if they hold out guys or start trading, then they're tanking and eventually replacing Thibs for Front Office retardation.
I think the SVG plan is about the best that's available of big time hires. SA is out of assistant coaches and other unemployed dudes have either a playoff losing history or not even a regular season winning history there.
If anything read what former coaches and nowadays television experts say. If someone starts raving about Jazz players I'd say he's trying to get a job interview.

Weren't you banging on me a week or two ago for the Thibbs suggestion?

Not me. Thibodeau's issues with the Bulls organization are well known. I thought he wasn't signed beyond this year but it appears I may be wrong. Researching now.

He's got 4 more years through 2017 ;) Bulls won't let him go unless he finds another team. And why would he wanna leave?

Because he has 0 respect for management and actually dislikes Gar Forman? And because that team might be well on it's way to falling apart?

However, the Bulls still owe him at least $9 million, they are notorious tightwads, and they hold all the cards. I probably have to change my opinion about this now.
