I'm still very, very high on O'Neale. He's really only been playing NBA minutes for less than a season. He has already shown that he can play top level defense. Offensively, he is limited, but he has shown flashes of productivity both off the bounce and shooting the 3.
I just think he is one of those late bloomers who is getting it more and more over time. And at less than $2 million this year and next, we are lucky to have him. The development staff and O'Neale just really need to work their butt off and we could have a very important rotation player for a while.
If you break down the last few games, every minute we have given to Thabo could have gone to O'Neale and we would be better off. For example last night, Thabo was -11 last night shooting 0-4 with zero points. O'Neale was +6 shooting 4-6 and 1-2 from 3. Outside of 2 turnovers, he played excellent basketball for 18 minutes. And like they say, good defense never has a cold streak.
