Thorpe's disappointing rookies list

Hayward has 1 problem right now and that's that he doesn't know how to use the offense for his benefit. Think about the 26 points he scored against the Lakers in the preseason. Sure - alot of that was due to Devin Ebanks not having a clue defensively - but alot his points came off cutting to the basket where he either finished at the rim or got to the line.

In the regular season he's not cutting hard enough, instead he's spending too much time floating around the 3pt line - which isn't effective because he's not a consistent perimeter shooter. Alot of talk about watching film, someone should give Hayward a DVD of Ronnie Brewer's cuts in the halfcourt offense because that's how he needs to play - cutting hard off the ball where he can either get layups or take advantage of his ability to pass off the dribble. He sucks defensively but again most 20-year old rookies do. However, he has to be able to do 1 thing positive out on the floor and so far he's not.

He's afraid of getting stuffed if he goes inside.

Yeah, right, eh, Squealboy? You're the dime-dropper deluxe round this here joint, eh? If I could git the lease on that pay phone on your corner, I would be a millionaire. Every admin and his brutha would be notified in seconds.

Like I said...always an excuse.

I'm still seeing flashes of great play from him. Some of his passes are so awesome. But the kid can't fight through a screen to save his life, and in this offense that ain't gonna cut it. Obviously, he'll struggle defensively as well.

Well, if ya really aint knowin---theys this guy, namma Huffinger, at ESPN who does stats (tells ya all ya need to be knowin about his sorry *** right there, know what I'm sayin). He slaps together what he calls a "player efficiency ratin." Some chumps even cite it as though it means sumthin.

Locke mentioned last night that Hayward said he couldn't use any of the defensive techniques he was taught at Butler. Its gotta take some time to unlearn all the bad habbits and train the mind & body to react the Sloan way.

I wish Scotty Layden would show him a tape Brewer's back cuts and where Brewer was able to sneak in some weakside layups/dunks and rebounds.

IMO Hayward only is confident and comfort when he is on a fastbreak with this team. That is when he is sure what to do.

Also defensively he has improved a lot. His defensive slide looks much improved over the summer league. Next he needs to learn how to not bite on fakes. To be followed by getting over screens better.

Offensively in the halfcourt he doesn't have confidence in his jumper. He doesn't have a strength to go to the hoop. So that doesn't leave him many opportunities.

You can tell he is afraid to shot the ball. He has open shots and just passes. I hate seeing him come into the game knowing that we have Miles, AK, or even Evans who can play and just brings the energy.

Told yall

What? You told us after 5 games in the season he is a worthless pile of poo, and that we need to write him off, and trade him for an xbox 360.
If we did that to you after your first few posts, we never would have seen the masterpieces you have recently posted.
Just like we did not give up on you, you must not give up on Hayward.
