As I've watched things unfold, I've lost all faith in (edit) Danny Ainge.

Dude took over a thriving franchise, traded away all of our talent, and we're still nowhere close to finding a star player.

He forced Hardy to play all of the veterans to boost their trade value, effectively costing us a real chance at Wemby. And then turned around and traded them all while helping the Lakers dump Westbrook because he valued their 2027 pick.

He then turned around and completely tanked the value of that pick helping facilitate Luka to the Lakers.

Well, to be fair, he's likely made a lot of grade trades/signings...almost.

If it hadn't been the Jazz, there were half a dozen other teams that would've done the Jazz's part in that trade. It would've happened, no matter what. Now the Jazz just got a couple of seconds for it.
 
In fairness, we were probably going to lose Donovan Mitchell anyway- and the haul we got for Mitchell and Gobert was undeniably

And a report said that they didn't tell Ainge it was part of a Luka trade beforehand. If we want to point out a very regrettable trade- I would pick trading Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to Minnesota. NAW helped their defense- and the mentoring of Mike Conley will make all their young stud guards better than they might have been.
 
My main issue with DA is that he hasn't built the team the way I would have. I would have prioritized two way players in the draft more than he has. That and the John Collins trade which in retrospect hasn't been that big of a deal.

I mean we partially traded him to Cleveland in hopes that he would ditch them and go to New York, and that didn’t happen. I’m glad we got Lauri, but I will forever wonder what would've happened if we kept Donovan and tried to build around him for a year or two using the assets from the Rudy trade. I think there would’ve been at least a chance that he stays if it would’ve worked

I wonder the same thing. I've read/heard countless times that Mitchell was going to leave. But, then we also heard ad naseum that he would likely leave Cleveland, and how'd that turn out? The NBA media ecosystem thrives on rumors and repeating (often uncritically) conventional wisdom. I think it's more than justified to approach all of it with a reasonable degree of skepticism.

My (possibly inaccurate) understanding is that a major source of his dissatisfaction was Gobert. Had we traded Gobert, could Mitchell have been enticed to remain? I don't know, and the risk of Mitchell walking without getting anything for him was, I assume, an intolerable risk for the FO. But, I can't help wondering what would have happened if more effort had been made to get Mitchell to stay (assuming the FO hadn't already made all reasonable efforts).

Added to this, in choosing between Mitchell and Gobert, building around Mitchell was the obvious choice from a basketball perspective.
