Who's gonna be the odd man out?

Tough one. I would say the Rockets easily two weeks before but they are pushing it nowadays.

I just hope that the Jazz won't come up to be the ones. I really would like to see their playoff performance this season and it would help the league recognize the improvement they are making. Next healthy year, 6th seed to championship. Olajuwon style.

I say :

- Portland easily grabs 5th seed. It's pretty certain now.

- Houston easily gets the 4 ones left. They're all easy games. They get 42 wins.

- Memphis loses last 4. Those are pretty hard ones and Conley is out : GSW x 2, Dallas, Clippers. They get 42 wins too but Houston owns the tie breaker.

- Utah wins the last four, beating LAC and Dallas at home. They get 43 wins.

- Dallas wins 3 and just loses one at Utah. They get 43 wins but Utah owns the tie breaker.

The final seeds :

5th - Portland
6th - Utah
7th - Dallas
8th - Houston

Out : 9th - Memphis

That's the most probable scenario in my opinion considering the games left.

If Utah loses the Dallas game though, they're screwed for the 6th and the 7th seed because Houston and Dallas both would get on top. Last hope for a 8th seed and not 9th would then be Memphis losing all 4 games, which has a good chance to happen.

If we win out fish and I will both be in the money!

Houston's games aren't easy.

At Minnesota is a tough game, ask Golden State.

Sacramento is also a team capable of playing very well if motivated.

They also are on a back end of a B2B tonight, vs the Suns, but still back end of a back to back.

Interesting. The OP gave three choices but you think the most likely loser is the fourth? Do you think that Houston and Dallas are both relatively safe and that the odd man out is either Utah or Memphis?

Yes, I think either Memphis or Utah is out. Dallas and Houston should go through.

I just don't see Houston losing to Kings or Wolves when they need those wins that much and those teams don't play for anything anymore. As Cy said, they won't be easy games. But in my opinion Rockets have too much to win here and those low teams too little.

Dallas is on fire, I just don't see them losing the games they need against Memphis and Clippers, they're veterans and they're less depleted than the Grizzlies. I just doubt they can beat the Jazz in SLC on a back to back though. Jazz really want the playoffs too and they'll be at home. Hence my conclusion.

Dallas also plays SA the last day but SA will probably rest every major player so it shouldn't be that hard to win.

Memphis on the other end lost a lot of major players (Gasol, Conley, Lee) and they have very difficult games (GSW x 2, LAC, DAL). Outside of LAC, those teams need the win (GSW for the all time wins record, Dallas for the playoffs). Griz are just too depleted to win those right now.

Even if LAC doesn't care and Grizzlies win this one, it won't change anything for the Jazz unless Dallas beats the Jazz, because Jazz own the tie breaker vs Memphis.

If Utah doesn't beat Dallas though, Jazz will need Memphis to lose every game to go through including this one against Clips, so it would matter.

A week ago I was sure the Jazz were getting in the playoffs. It was just a matter of 6th, 7th or 8th seed. Now I'm nervous as hell.

Yup...we needed one miracle win (vs the Warriors or Spurs) and we came up empty. That would have been our "cushion"...now we have to win out.

This.
Wtf

The best news is that the Jazz control their own destiny. That's why the Jazz should look at things one game at a time. Let's beat the Clippers tomorrow and go from there.

The 6th seed would be gravy, I'd be so looking forward to having a showdown against OKC.

I always looked at it as a loss to GS and needing a win against SA or LAC. Jazz control their destiny. They have 4 games they'll be favored to win. That's a great scenario.

I think Houston just dug themselves a big hole.
