Looking at this article, how close are the Jazz to not only making the playoffs, but also competing to make the playoffs, and finding a way to survive and advance past the first round?

1. Stars win series...Jazz need to get one.

Holy hell, why didn't any of us ever think of this before? What a groundbreaking concept...

Jazz should be looking to trade their assets for a star every chance they get.

Starpower rules the nba.

Miami, Toronto, Atlanta, Boston are good fun teams that have tons of talent and depth at most positions. But they don't have a true star. They will never get to the thunder, cavs, spurs, healthy clippers, warriors level without a star.

Where Indiana and Portland have lillard (star) and Paul George (star). They just need to improve their role players.

Of course even if you have lillard or George, they still are not at the level of curry, lebron, durant, or Leonard.

Then you have The Brow, KAT, boogie and all the stars on teams that just are not ready yet.

There are alot of stars in the league and most drafts produce 1 or 2 each year.
The jazz still need to find one unfortunately. But good news is that so do the raptors, celtics, hawks etc and if the jazz get to the second round with the current roster then I guess I'm ok to settle for good playoff runs but no chance of championships. It would be pretty sweet to be watching the jazz right now in the playoffs with a fully healthy roster.


In summary, the jazz need to be aggressive as **** when it comes to pursuing stars or potential stars. Whether through free agency (they have lots of money), trade for a player (they have lots of assets) or trade up in the draft/get lucky a little later in the draft (leonard).

Maybe none of those scenarios are available though I'm sure being a GM is tough.

Jazz are in such a weird place. Lots of good pieces, but how do they add a star without gutting their team or with only the 12 pick?

Superstars are a necessity, but hardly a guarantee.

Cousins/Rondo/Gay - fail
Harden/Howard - one superstar in his prime and one star
Brow/Holiday/Evans - we were 10 games better than them

If Exum becomes a star I will be pleasantly surprised. I just don't see him with he fire to get there... but that's just my opinion. He's too nice.

I agree. I don't think he will be a star. I think if he has high trade value (doubtful) then the jazz should trade him and another good player (burks or hayward or favors) and picks (depending on who we are going after) for a real star if there are any teams willing to trade their star.

Of course it depends on who the star player is too.

Agreed. There are no guarantees. Only things that increase your chances.
