Thunder @ Jazz post game quotes

Miles on holding down Durant and Utah's improved perimeter defense: "We've been a lot better. The biggest thing we've done is focus on guarding their guy. You know you're going to be helped, but don't push 'em to the help. Play 'em like there's no help. … So that way, [teammates] don't have to help as much and we haven't extended our defense as much."

Tinsley on a move that saw him bounce the ball between the legs of OKC's Nazr Mohammed, catch it, then hit a running floater: "Aw, I've been doing that for the longest. It was a great opportunity and a great spot. He stepped up. Usually when they step up like that, they don't tend to think people are going to do that, and I've been doing that for a while."

What's made the difference for the Jazz: "We're trusting each other. That's the big key. If we keep trusting ourselves on the defensive end, that's going to give us a better chance to win. Then we learn how to close games out and finish games. And we've got guys that don't care about scoring."

Tinsley pointed out a situation against the Thunder where Corbin called a play for Jefferson. Utah's center deferred, though, and made sure Paul Millsap recorded a basket. "That's trusting your teammate," Tinsley said.

Jazz's confidence, chemistry and selflessness: "That's the great thing about this team. You've got young and older guys [who] have only got one agenda in here, and that's to win ballgames. They don't mind other teammates scoring a lot of points. Don't mind other teammates getting a lot of rebounds. They don't mind other players getting a lot of assists. We've all got one agenda here, and that's to win ballgames. That's a key when you've got a bunch of younger guys and a bunch of older guys. Usually people have hidden agendas, and there's none of that."

"Our guards and our bigs are stepping up on defense and we are just playing together and for each other," Tinsley said.

Millsap on his overall offensive game being better than ever: "I would say so. I'm more in tune right now. I got out of synch for a little bit. But I'm back in synch and I'm starting to pick and choose my shots. I'm just playing off everybody else."
"We're definitely playing better together."

Jazz starting to believe they're truly playoff-worthy: "Yeah. We're turning into a winning basketball team. The mindsets of everybody, you can tell that guys want to win and they're better on the defensive end and helping each other on the offensive end. The mindset is there. We've just got to continue to push."

Devin Harris on Jazz's chemistry and selflessness: "That's the way you win games, especially against these good teams. Ball movement, [defense], rebounding the ball, sharing the ball. We continue to play this way, we're a good team."
"They pay so much attention to our inside guys. Al came back tonight, he kicked it out and it's our job to hit those shots. He trusts us."

Jefferson: "It's all about confidence right now. We've got it and we're rolling."

"It's good to be back with my second family here. My teammates are playing like a family now because we trust each other to make the right play."

Ty Corbin: "We should be very confident right now. We're understanding that we need to count on each other, especially at the defensive end of the floor and depending on each other to make the right plays."
"They hit some shots but our main focus had to be on (Durant and Westbrook) because they're going to have the ball in their hands at the end."
"I don't know if it sends a message to anybody else but to us. Our goal is to get into the playoffs. It's always been that. We're in good shape now, but there's a lot of basketball left to play."

Kevin Durrant: "They played good defense. You have to give those guys credit, but I can't miss seven shots in the fourth quarter as one of the main guys."

"Just couldn't make a shot. I put that on myself. I had a few good looks. Maybe I should have pulled up. When you get to the rim and you get charges, it messes with you a little bit. It messed with me tonight, but I still have to be aggressive. I just missed shots. I can't make any excuses up."
“I just got to be stronger with the ball.”

Scott Brooks: "They were the physical team and we had to match that, but they did a good job at winning that part of the game."
“They did a good job of trapping our pick-and-rolls. When we're at our best, our pick-and-roll game is really good and they did a good job of stopping our pick-and-roll game and trapping it and forcing us to go to the weak side.”
“I thought they did a great job of playing physical basketball,” Brooks said. “They scored a bunch of points in the paint. We gave them two areas that we wanted to not have trouble with: turning the ball over and offensive rebounds.”

Nick Collison: “That's how Utah wants to play. They want to throw the ball inside and they want to attack the rim. And we weren't good enough tonight to keep them away from it.”
“We haven't been playing well consistently lately. We need to turn it around. We need to play better. Hopefully it will start in the next game.”

The Jazz demolished the Thunder near the basket, outscoring them 50-20 in the paint.

this was my favorit part of this post. This aspect of their defense drives me insane. I've never understood why they double team so much on the perimeter. I just don't know why it took so long to figure this out.

This is maybe the best pick n roll team in the league and they could not score in crunch time.

I don't want to jinx anything but maybe these guys are getting it. That was elite defense I saw in a great deal of this game, including the last 3 minutes. Ty has to be proud of this effort.

Yea that cray three that Westbrook mad...Well it was of incredibly good D by the Jazz. The Thunder barely even got the ball over the 3 point line. I will take them making shots like that. They are clicking and The Four are having a major role in it.

Brilliant game. I am starting to believe.

Tinsley: while I love Earl's grit and alley-oops, it sure does help the team to be able to make a shot. Also interesting that the Jazz did this without their stalwart, rugged, brilliant vet wings, Raja and Howard. Mebbe Ty needs to re-think their value to the team?

Absolutely love hearing stuff like this

Post-Game Quotage
** Paul Millsap: First off, I want to thank God, give Him all the glory.

** Millsap: Al Jefferson, the last play, it was supposed to go to him and he turned it over to me. So that’s what type of teammates we have. That’s what type of team we have.

** Millsap: For Al to do that…he humbled himself at that play, for me. (2)

** Big Al: Coach ran a play for me at the end of the game, and I said, “No, give it to Paul.” He ran it for Paul, same play. Paul hit a big shot that put us up 6. That’s just what it takes to win.
[Why did you think Paul had a better chance of scoring?] Number one, I was scrubbin’ a little bit from the field. Paul wasn’t. I felt like Paul had a better advantage on Ibaka than I did on Perkins. For the last four games that we had won, Paul been the finisher. He been the one that been closing the games out. So, why stop now? I said, just go to him. And he didn’t let me down. (2)

** C.J. Miles: We’re all like big brothers, little brothers. Everybody jokes and messes with everybody, and we all love each other, which makes it even easier for us to play hard for each other because we all get along so well. (2)

** Big Al: [How much is the team like a family to you?] It’s not “like”; they are family, they your second family. We fight for each other, you know’m sayin, we go to war with each other. And at the end of the day I believe we would die for each other. This the only, the first team I ever been on, that we not divided…This group, we are as one. We click as one. We go out to eat, everybody go. That’s the good thing about this team. (2)

** Big Al on Josh Howard: It was a downer because ever since Josh got in the starting lineup, he been a great leader for us. He been playing well, both ends, and I know how bad Josh want it. I know how important this year was for him to come and show everybody he still got it. But good news is, we get to this Playoff, he’ll be back for us for the Playoffs. At least we can fight for him, and give him that opportunity to come help lead us. (3)

** Tinsley on his between-the-legs play making highlight reels: It’s nice, but the win is even better. (3)

Best of the Night Quotage
** Q: Do doubters fuel you?
Derrick Favors: Every day I wake up out of bed.
Q: You remember criticism.
DF: I remember every single one of them.
Q: What’s the number one criticism you remember out of that, that runs through your head, that drives you?
DF: “He’s not that good.” I can’t stand when people say that.
Q: (laughing) “He’s not that good?”
DF: They be like, “He’s not that good” or “He don’t work hard.” Pisses me off every time I hear that, man.
Q: So there’s nothing better for you than shutting those people up.
DF: Just make ‘em shut up and, know’m sayin, make them regret they ever said that about me. (2)

Welcome back, Big Al. Speedy recovery, Josh, Earl, and Raja.

These are our guys, and anyone that celebrated Josh’s injury can kiss my ***.

This example might be the next evolution or growing for this team, some night teams or players like Durant, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Rose etc.. will still hit those shots despite playing good D. The hard part might be not to hang your head or let up, keep doing playing through it. Let the coaches make an adjustment if need or the hard foul and/or make sure to take it to that player offensively when possible but keep playing with this new and improved D.

Last night that is exactly what they did. It was fantastic to see.

Just searched for it on youtube. Turkoglu, Blatche, Medvedenko, Yao, and on and on. He owns this move.

Man, I almost teared up reading all those quotes. Nothing better when you are on a team where everyone has the same purpose. I am ok with making the playoffs because I think if this team is united they can do some damage. The playoffs are all about match-ups and if the Jazz get a good draw maybe they can win a series or two. The fourth seed is still a possibility. OK maybe I am overreaching but team chemistry is very important to a team's success. All the Jazz need to do is go on a big winning streak and they are there.

If the Jazz can get out of the first round, I would gladly sacrifice our pick this year. Getting killed as a 7th or 8th seed still isn't worth it, IMO, but if Utah actually did get up as high as the 5th spot, I don't think the second round is out of the realm of possibilty. Let's see how long they can ride this new found confidence. I completely agree about team chemistry. Reading these quotes at this point in the season gives me the warm fuzzies.

Gut feeling is that we lose to OKC, Spurs, Dallas, and have a chance against anyone else.

How different are we from the 2011 Memphis playoff team? Im curious to hear someone compare the two teams.
